Chapter 6 - From Dry to Humid.

Like this report says. We went from Drybone Texas to the Rainforest. Just less rain and more humidity that made it feel like you were breathing water. It took Liquid Air to a new level.

More details came to us luckily as we stopped off the officer at a nearby Marine cruiser. The planet was not named and instead just deemed a mining point after discovery. And..I might have been wrong on the less rain part.

The planet was half untamed jungle with any manners of critters and it rained. It really did, just for half a fucking year. Somehow the planet coped with it and was not over flooding. Also it was a perfect habitable planet located in a Goldilocks zone.

It was weird and my high tech non-military issue paranois radar was going off like a tornado siren. Was above my pay grade currently. I squashed further searching and just decided to keep my ears open.

"Alright Raptor squad. Looks like we get to play defend the castle just with better toy and not so human enemies." We began briefing over the next extra week of travel. Combining are genius minds to formulate the plans of all plans.

"We got claymore and managed to steal another crate of grenades. Give it up for are hero at Hammer squad." My squad clapped and cheered and I was sure Flint had a tear in his eye.

"We have a small fort to defend for about a week to week and a half. This will give the fancy pants Marines enough time to coordinate additional forces to begin mining and setting up security." I tapped at my white board inside the shuttle transport. Yes. We made it the new meeting room.

"The Murphy's Law has enough room to land in the middle and the top guns will provide support should something large and scary come. Additionally we will be mounting Our Tripod gun." The fort was pretty much a oversized square. A slowly rising hill being where it was placed on.

Glenn pointed at the east side. "I say we mount it there. High heat readings from the ship sensors." Alex nodded only Mowa pointed out the obvious. "The whole jungle. Is heat filled."

That shut up the first suggestion and brought a chuckle from the surrounding squad members. "I say. We put it on. A corner to watch two. Sides at one time." It was probably the most words Mowa had said since he joined.

"I agree. I say we stick it at the NorthWest side to cover Hammer squad. Poor bastards." I said. Another round of light Chuckles came as last week during the mission now dubbed. "Operation Shitfest" for the local wildcat population and "Operation Metal Storm" for the more professional people.

Hammer squad led by Mowa was ambushed up on a ridge line while providing cover fire for the other three squad as they extracted survivors from the town. Only 1 Wildcat wounded and he healed to perfect health. Getting a scar cool enough for chicks to drool over.

We all agreed on the placement and began pulling literal straws for who would get which side. "East." Mowa said. Followed by Razor getting North, Apollo snagging West, and Raptor getting the Dreadful south.

"If you get done in while having support from the mounted. Let me know so I can save the last bullet yeah?" Said weapon was quite ridilicious. Reliable enough that they were just now beginning to put the whole system out of commission.

The Mk.1 Spitfire had three rotating barrels. Like a minigun just fewer and with two cans of ammo hooked to the side. The metal shards it fired being half as long as my forearm and the width about my finger.

The rate of fire was what I called "Shit! I need more ammo!" and on the plus side, since there was no casing they saved space and managed to stuff more ammo in to the familiar green tinted cans.

The downside being it was battery operated and it was connected to said battery via a cord as thick as my fist. One of the few reasons it was being replaced. Also the battery only lasted 10 to 15 minutes in heavy combat which was..practically nothing.

We only had 3 of those batteries so we had to make sure every one of them count. "So we have are sides and we get to play the waiting game. Anything else we know?" The group collectively nodded no except for Mowa. "Got flares. And Flame Grenades." We the grunts were not ashamed to say we got boners at the words. Incidenary grenades were always worth it.

"Nice! Depending on how many we have I want every soldier with 1 on there person. Same with the flares. Dismissed!" Over time I was made defacto plan creator since I had real experience with battle plans. Just not any larger then squad level so I was tredding new water.

Time passed by yet again as the day of the mission came and I went by the armory to see what the new load out would be.

Every soldier including Squad Leaders rocked Mk.2 armor and Rifle. Each man or woman was given 6 magazines worth of ammo not including the one inside the rifle already. 570 rounds in total.

With this came 3 grenades on each person as everyone expended in total 1 grenade last mission. One hand flare was assigned to each man as well, only the squad leaders carrying one Incidenary grenade.

We also all agreed on wearing on mask since we would rather not choke on Liquid Air.

Everyone formed up at the Cargo Hold of the ship since we would directly be landing inside the base and would then fan out to our assigned positions. Razor squad huffing the large Tripod for the corner part of the walled fort. Me and my squad fave then a thumbs up for taking one for the team and lugging the stupidly heavy thing.

"Alright Grunts. Go out there and raise hell." Murphy's voice came out over the intercom as the back door open up.

"Holy shit did we land without us feeling it?" Everyone nodded. "Fucking pilots.." I grumbled and began making my way off the ship and on to the planet.
