Chapter 43 - POLITICAL MARRIAGE

"No! You can't do that to me! I won't let you dictate my life just like that!"

A shout could be heard from the study room of the Mu clan's residence not too long after Mu Lingxi entered.

"Xiao Lingxi, listen to me. I'm doing this for your own good."

Mu Ruochen said in a consoling manner as he tries to reach his granddaughter who was being hysterical.

"Don't you dare touch me! How could you?!!!"

Mu Lingxi stepped back as she stared at the man across him in disbelief. She can't help but think about what Mu Yanxiao just said.

"Mu Lingxi! Stop being childish. Sooner or later you will have to get married. Might as well do it for our clan's common good."

She heard his grandfather said his piece before he turns around and pours himself a cup of tea.

"But Grandpa,.. how about me????"

She paused for a while and observe Mu Ruochen's reaction, this further incite her disappointment. Her grandfather's nonchalance was like a slap of truth for her. His silent treatment stung more than anything else.

"How could you sent your granddaughter into someone else household just like that????"

"He is not just someone else. He is a prince!!! What are you hesitating for?? It was a good match for us."

"No its not! I didn't love him. Grandpa, please. Don't do this to me. I don't want to marry the prince."

"But I thought you two are in good terms??? Aren't you together the entire time during the banquet???"

Mu Lingxi turned silent this time. She tried to reflected their encounter. Yes, she must admit that this Prince Long Fuzi was able to struck a chord on her heart during their brief encounter back then.

But iF she must say, that was just infatuation. A short live affection. It's not something as serious as love. Not even close the point that she will consider marrying him.

Yes, she might be a hopeless romantic dreaming for a prince charming to come and save her lonely heart. Chase away all her sorrow and accompany her until death sets them apart.

But she won't just settle herself out of convenience. She believes that marriage was something that should be shared by two people in love. It is sacred matrimony. That is why we can't just marry someone we just met the first time.

"We're just friends. I don't have any romantic feelings towards him."

Mu Lingxi spoke with a tone that allows no objection. She stared directly at Mu Ruochen's eyes. Hoping that it can help to add effect and emphasize her great insistence on the need to reconsider her sudden betrothal to the prince.

"You will eventually develop your feelings to the prince over time, little girl."

"No! You don't understand me at all! What I mean is I cannot marry Prince Long Fuzi because I didn't love him at all..."

"What is the difference whether you love him before or after the marriage??? Please little girl, stop this nonsense! Go back to your room now. I don't want to hear anything about this anymore."

"I can't believe you,.. of all the people. Why is it you who have to do this to me??? Why???

Am I really just a mere tool on your eyes??? Have you ever saw me as a real family before??? Or you are just raising me like a fat lamb, to be slaughtered in the future? To be conveniently used at your disposal????"

"Stop this drama Mu Lingxi! I had enough of your tantrums. Have I not dote you enough in the past? It's your turn to repay that kindness. Think about how our clan will benefit to this marriage arrangement. Don't just think about yourself and do this for me and your clan, just this once."

For the second time, Mu Lingxi felt the suffocating feeling as if something was stock within her throat.

Her chest hurt so much due to the mixed emotion that she was holding back to herself, threatening to explode her into who-knows-what.

She was not sure why, but she feels betrayed. Maybe because she takes Mu Ruochen as her real grandfather???

Maybe because she thought that for the first time in her two lives, she could finally have a family that she could call her own, and a doting one on top of that.

Yet the truth was all for her to see. It was nothing but a facade.
