It's good to be back in the Philippines, my home sweet home... I inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. Savoring the first air in my hometown after a week of vacation as we exited the airport to go directly home.
"No time to waste, I will start working tomorrow dad". I suddenly blurted.
Everybody were taken aback with my statement and sternly looked at my direction, "You don't need to hurry my dear. Since tomorrow is Sunday, you will start on Monday". dad said childishly with a mischievous smile. Everybody laughed. I just sigh and joined the group's laughter. Indeed, the vacation had unfreeze our bones and I got lost with the date and day. It was the best week ever.
"Oh yeah.., it was meant to make us laugh" LOL 😜
But still, I need to learn the business in a SNAP.
In the comfort of my own room, I began unpacking my things when suddenly there was a patterned knock to the tuned of we are the champion's "we will, we will rock you" on the door. Nobody does it but my bestfriend Belle. Is she here now? She went to California to visit her mother hoping she would land a job there. I thought of Belle and excitedly stood to open the door.
"Miaaaaaaaaaaa" as she hugged me tightly. "You're home is stunning" Belle exclaimed as she looked around in amazement. Dad had done a major renovation in our house while we were all away. He put more happy colors to the living room. It's the kind of place in the house that sets ones' gloomy mood to a happy one. A color combination of sunshine yellow and leafy green. It also is accented with all sizes of sunflowers situated strategically. But what strikes the most is the big smiling sunflower hanging on the wall just above the leafy designed sofa.... It would catch the attention of all who enters the living room. Playful yet elegant and sophisticated.
The kitchen was exceptionally spectacular too. It also had undergone major make over and is occupying a bigger space now. The former stock room is now part of the kitchen and its elegance is radiating from ceiling to walls to floor, from utensils to glasswares, from storage cabinets to freezers and refrigerators, from washing area to cooking area, every bits and pieces were carefully chosen. Everything perfectly complemented and blended the silver and white surroundings.
The dining room was also worth noting. It's also in white and silver but with a little touch of gold here and there. The giant dining table and chairs were made of Purple heart wood. I heard from dad that wood itself costs $12 per board foot in the market. It is one of the most expensive wood in the world and can only be found in some areas in Central and South America. This dining set from Brazil is rare in the world and was specially made for us, therefore, it is only us who has this kind. It costed my father to spend a 7-digit fortune on this set. There was no decoration on the wall except the pair of a 3-feet spoon and fork that was purely made of a 24-carat gold. If an outsider would just know the cost of this masterpieces, it would surely cause them to open their jaws in awe.
What was this dad? A show off of wealth and power? I wanted to asked but never did.
