Don't get it wrong. Immortal Range Sect is normally not a place where fellow sect members duke it out against each other for no reasons at all. It's just that their masters are truly battle junkies and well, as their disciple it was inevitable that it would sort of rub off on them.
Jia Li and Ling Guan have fought multiple battles with each other. At first it was just to satisfy their master's overblown ego of whose disciple is better, but eventually, they got more competitive and would challenge each other of their own free will. They were not as battle crazy as their masters but still, it would be a lie to say that they don't enjoy the thrill of beating their opponents.
Ling Guan's sword crackled dangerously with electricity as he pulls it out of its sheath. He rushes forward and swung at Jia Li who in turn took out her own sword to block the attack.
Ling Guan's sword was beautifully made with transparent purple ore that from far away, it almost resembles ice. The part making up the blade was a clear color of light amethyst while the hilt was a murky mix of dark plum and iris.
Compared to Jia Li's sword that was made to look domineering and powerful, Ling Guan's sword in comparison looked like a work of art that was meant to be admired but not used. However, despite its deceptively fragile appearance, it was every bit as powerful and high quality was Jia Li's sword.
The two swords claimed against each other, one like a ruthless dragon while the other was like an unrelenting ice tiger, both dangerous beasts with towering pride.
Ling Guan was in the middle of trying to find an opening when he suddenly lost his balance. He looked down slightly to see vines growing out of the ground wrapping tightly around his ankle, quickly spreading onto his back.
The spiritual energy in this world is divided into fire, wind, wood, water, and lightning. A single spirit vein user would only have to absorb one type of element in order to cultivate while someone with multiple spirit veins would have to absorb multiple kinds of elements, causing them to take longer to cultivate.
Jia Li had once asked He Yang if multiple spirit vein users are stronger in the long run since they would be able to use multiple elements rather than just one. He Yang replied by saying that for example if someone has fire and wind spirit veins but they have a better affinity with fire, then during cultivation their fire spiritual vein would become stronger than their wind spiritual vein.
Jia Li had later on experimented with the fire, wind, and wood spirit veins that she possesses. However, she didn't notice any visible difference in strength with any of them, instead, it felt like she could freely control all of them with ease. Consulting her Master, she found out that it was possible that this was another perk of being half-dragon.
Dragons are known for being one of the most powerful existence in the world, a natural-born predator at the top of the food chain. Other than their fearsome strength and strong body, they are born with the natural ability to control the elements.
As Jia Li was only half dragon so she couldn't wield all the elements but it appears that she could however freely use the elements of the spirit veins she possesses. Her speed of cultivation wasn't as fast as Ling Guan's but she can use her control over the elements to make up for it.
Ling Guan summoned a bolt of lightning causing Jia Li to retreat. Twisting, he neatly cut through the vines while moving his hands in quick concise movements to form a hand seal.
Two swords made of crackling thunder formed above Ling Guan's head and with a flick of his finger, it headed straight towards Jia Li.
"Hmph" Jia Li quickly created a wall of vines to block the swords.
When Ling Guan attack Jia Li would block and then counter and when Jia Li attacks Ling Guan will also block and counter without a fail. Their strength overall was firmly on par with each other making it hard for there to be a victor.
Finally, it was Ling Guan that landed a decisive blow, ending the fight when Jia Li had lost her concentration for a moment.
Ling Guan smirked victoriously, sweat trickling from his forehead down to his collarbone. "You lost."
Jia Li flopped onto the floor and rolled around for a bit before curling up into a sleeping position. F*ck she lost to him.
Whoever wins their fight would have bragging rights until their next one. The thought of having to put up with his over-inflated ego..... she refuses. She must quickly fix this.

"Another round...another round" Jia Li got up ready to pick another fight.
Ling Guan leisurely sat down and poured himself a cup of tea from a table nearby. "I don't want to."
Do you think he's stupid? That he was going to give up a hard-won victory without even enjoying it?
"Fine, fine, fine.... where are your Masters? Now that she thinks about it, it was too quiet with no sounds of fighting at all.
"Hm? Oh, I came alone. Well, not alone. There are a few other disciples from other peaks waiting down at the mountain peak. I came here to get you."
"For what?" Jia Li had a nagging feeling that her Master forgot to tell her about something again.
The minute she thought of her Master, He Yang appeared behind her back without a sound and shoved a spacial bag into her hand. "Hahaha I forgot to tell you little disciple but I signed you up for a group mission with succeeding disciples of other peaks. Don't worry I packed your bag for you."
"...."
It turns out that several Peak Masters wants their disciple to get more experiences but was worried about their disciple handling a mission with a higher difficulty by themselves. So they have decided to let their disciples form a group to undertake the mission together. This would also provide a chance for them to learn from each other.
There was a disciple from each peak excluding Beast Taming peak. Zhang Luo Luo had taken in a few more regular disciples during the selection but it seems that she has yet to take in a succeeding disciple.
LiFen, the disciple from Artifact peak was the oldest among them. With an amiable smile, she appears to be gentle and kind.
Although all of them were succeeding disciples which puts them on the same status level, LiFen was politely given the address "Senior Sister Li".
Cheng Ao was the disciple from Formation peak. Almost like the complete opposite of LiFen, everything about him screams "unapproachable" from his serious expression to his straight, almost stiff posture.
A few years ago, Jia Li had read from one of her Master's many dusty books that sects are managed by a Sect Master. When Jia Li had asked He Yang who the Sect Master for Immortal Range sect was, He Yang had replied that it was the Formation Peak Master Chang Jiu Ling.
Apparently, when the previous Sect Master had retired, all the previous Peak Masters had also retired at around the same time. The new generation of Peak Masters (the current ones) all had inflated egos (He Yang said that he didn't but Jia Li thought otherwise) so they decided to fight it out to decide who is the new Sect Master.
In the end, Chang Jiu Ling had won the all-out fight making her the new Sect Master.
The disciple from Alchemy sect, Hui Liang, looked extremely young. He had a tender baby face and his height was the shortest among them. Jia Li had thought that he was also the youngest but it turns out that he was the same age as her.
Further introduction allowed Jia Li to realize that Hui Liang was actually the Heavenly Fire spirit vein from back in Golden Spring City.
Back then the on looking people had said that the child would definitely be a powerhouse when he grew up so Jia Li had been curious for a while now about what kind of person he was.
