It didn't take long but the pain subsided and he felt a lot better.
"The last memory is that this man died a few seconds ago. He was severely injured by the lightning." As the memories merged, he can now naturally recollect the new memory as if it is his own. He examined his arms and noticed that the burn marks are fading and the body doesn't feel like it just died recently.
"It seems like my soul vitality and whatever transported my soul here has the power to heal a body?" He has a rough guess based on the man's memory.
"But my own memory... it is as if it was just a distant dream." He said with a solemn expression. He knows his own wasn't gone, it just felt distant and aloof.
"This man's name is Geralt Werden. He's an apprentice magician." His eyes lighten up. Magic? He loves magic and he always fantasizes about a magical world where he is a prince.
Excitedly, he raised his left hand to his front and using what he can remember on man's memory, he concentrated on the magic formula for the basic fire. He felt a mysterious force seeps towards him, it is so subtle that if you aren't paying attention you will not notice it at all. The force circled him as if he is a sinkhole and the force is the water.
With the movement of that mysterious force, there's faint but warm energy that gathers in front of his hand.
A spark of fire appeared!
As he saw the spark, he got distracted and the spark disappeared instantly. The mysterious force is gone. It is as if it wasn't even there in the first place.
"Whoa! That's a magical fire!!"
"OMG! OMG! OMG! I'm now a magician?!"
He trembled with excitement. He stared intently to his hand for a few minutes. Looking at the back and front of his hand again and again as if he saw an unbelievable thing.
"But I can't be too excited. I'm now in this unknown world. Based on the memory, this world is called Blue Wonder. It's a land of magic. It is actually just one continent that spans for three thousand kilometers. Oh? And it is not a planet but actually a giant rock that floats in what they call as the Void. There's a barrier that surrounds this landmass that protects it from the Void. But the barrier is not invincible, powerful figures can move in and out of the barrier whenever they please."
"And it seems that only a part of my consciousness is in here. My actual body and soul are still on Earth. I can vaguely feel it but I know it is. So, it seems like I'm dreaming? Like an OBE?" If his conjecture is correct, he is likely dreaming or something similar to it. If that's the case, even if he dies in this place, he's still fine and can wake up?
"But that guy on the phone told me that the answer on how to earn the Gold is in here? Hmm, this man actually has around 40 Silvers on his bag. And it seems that the currency in this world is Copper, Silver, and Gold?"
"Damn it! 1000 Gold? Only the rich can accumulate that much money!" He now knows based on the memory of how valuable Gold is. Ordinary mortals only earn 1 Gold a year! Does that mean he needs to stay here for one thousand years? Can he even live that long?
"What kind of scam is this?!" He is infuriated with his situation. He thought of nothing on that squirrel app. Who can blame him? Who can imagine that tapping an image on the cell phone can actually transport someone into another world? Strange things like this only happen in novels.
"If this is a dream, I'll be back to my body if I force myself to wake up?" His eyes could not help but light up as he revealed a look of glee.
"Let's give it a try!" Smiling, he used his right hand and strongly slapped himself in the face using all the strength he can muster and to his shock, he felt a very strong stinging sensation on his cheeks.
"Ouch! Why it felt too real?! That really hurts!" Wincing in pain he opened his jaw and move it left and right, trying to check if he had accidentally dislocated his jaw on that slap.
"Hold on! Why that really feels so real?!" He gently pinched his arm and he felt it. The feeling is exactly just like in the real world. He pinched, pinched and pinched everywhere on his body. The results are the same.
His heart skips a beat.
"Is this world real?! If someone tortured me, I will really feel the pain? And why I wasn't back on my real body? Hmm... maybe it wasn't enough. I probably have to slap myself more."
Pah! Pah! Pah! Pah! Pah! Pah!
Pah! Pah! Pah! Pah! Pah! Pah!
Twelve consecutive slaps. At this point, his face was already swollen red from all the slapping.
Wincing in pain, he checked himself and looked at his surroundings. Nothing is happening. Nothing at all.
"I can't seem to wake up by just slapping and it hurts! I know I'm dreaming, I can vaguely feel the connection to my real body but what should I do?"
He pondered for a while. Then he tested theories one after another. He was still in that world.
"One thing is weird though. I somehow heal fast. My cheeks are now feeling fine. It wasn't swollen anymore."
He suddenly thought of something but winched after thinking about it.
"Does this body can really heal itself?"
He picked up a stone with sharp edges. He carefully sliced a very tiny skin on his arm. Enough for the blood to seep out.
What happened next astonished him.
The wound closed up and repaired itself. It's like the time rewound in reverse.
"Interesting! So this body can really heal itself automatically!" He exclaimed happily but frowned after.
"Does that mean, the pain won't wake me up? And probably I can't die? Should I test if the theory is correct?" He is lamenting whether to test it or not. He knows he can vaguely feel his real body somewhere and he's ninety percent sure that he won't really die for sure. But what if he is wrong?
"Arggh!" He shuffled his hair in frustration. Why things won't just be easy and just wake up? Wouldn't that be better?
"Well, there's no rush. There's no need to risk my life. Maybe I'll figure it out eventually." He shook his head and sighed deeply.
"I'll push that issue aside for now. The immediate concern right now is where I am. Based on the memory this area is the famous Lightning Plain of Death. Nobody in their right mind goes here except for those who train in the lightning magic. This man wants to cross from Fern City to the Horn City to visit his father but he has no money to pay for the usage of a teleportation circle on the Fern City. He received a piece of news that his father is dying so he rushed and tried his luck to cross this death plain by foot."
"That father is not his real father though. He was originally an orphan and that man saved him from the bandits that day. He was just three years old back then. The man raised him up with love as if he was his real son. So he can't help but be thankful and love the man as if his own father as well."
Suddenly, he can't help it but tears started to flow incessantly.
"Such a strong emotion of love." He was stunned. He felt it as if he is that son. Such a strong yearning to see his father and save him.
"So the reason he doesn't have enough money is that he used the majority of it to buy the medicine. He was conflicted having to decide whether to use it to teleport or to buy the medicine. But eventually decided to buy the medicine and try his luck crossing this plain by foot. If he used it to teleport and without the medicine, the outcome is that his father will be sure as dead. At least with the path he chose, there's a chance even if the possibility is low. He's willing to take the risk."
"Geralt Werden, wherever your soul is. I promise I'll do my best to bring this medicine to your father." He solemnly promises it to the best of his ability.
"You're a good guy. This is the least I can do for you. " He prayed for a moment for Geralt soul so that he can rest in peace.
Using some branches and stones, he constructed a simple grave.
After a while, he picked up the small brownish bag and looked inside. There's a money pouch that contained Geralt's remaining money. A set of notebook and a magical pen. Two worn-out books about magic. A jade bottle of medicine. And a rectangular piece of wood with some elegant adornment on its edges.
"This is... " He was shocked as he widened his eyes. Based on the memory, he knows exactly what this rectangular piece does.
