Chapter 34 - Seven Mysteries Part 15

The morning light pierces through the windows and it reaches through Kazuma's face. Kazuma slowly opened his eyes and he realized that he had fallen asleep on the floor. He didn't realize it until he had woken up.

"F*ck...I fell asleep on the floor?"

Kazuma sat up wiped off the drool on his mouth and rubbed his eyes. He grabbed the phone that was currently in his pocket and saw that it was 7:30 A.M.

"Ah, crap...I have a small amount of time to prepare...damn."

Kazuma immediately stood up and checked whether his uniform that he is still wearing whether it is dirty since he had worn the uniform while fighting the stone statue that was a Qlipoth. He was thankful that it wasn't dirty and had only minor patches of dust that could be wiped off with just damp water.

Grabbing his bag for school removing the armband and keeping it inside the school bag, he rushes to the kitchen to grab something that he can immediately prepare for the morning. Seeing that he had some eggs and some loaf bread, he grabbed the frying pan and the bread toaster as he started making his morning breakfast.

Since it was a quick but proper breakfast, it only took a few minutes before he was done and he is now eating his breakfast. Even though it is like an American quick breakfast minus the bacon and coffee for the morning, this is fine for him right now as it fills his stomach's needs.

It took him a bit of time and ample preparation before he was done with stuff. He also made sure he didn't stink of sweat or dust and finished his final preparations before he left home once more.

When he arrived at the school gates, he sighed in relief when he arrived on time and the gates had not closed. One of the guards he saw last night starts to look at him strangely, perhaps because this guard saw him enter the school but didn't go out after that, and yet he saw Kazuma walking back into the school.

As much as Kazuma wanted to clear the doubts of the guard, there was no way he would tell him about the night escapade he was in. He left the bewildered guard and went to his class.

When he passed where the statue was killed last night, the signs of the battle had disappeared completely and even the debris that was scattered all over had disappeared as well. Kazuma is not sure whether someone was cleaning up their mess after the job or whether Raigaki or Rena did the work. For him, he doesn't know.

He arrived at his classroom and since there was still enough time to walk around before their teacher returned, Kazuma decided to go straight to the classroom where the "Drifting Classroom" incident should have taken place. And to his surprise, the missing classroom that was missing last night has returned. Based on the looks of the students, it seems they either didn't know what happened or they are under mind alteration.

Kazuma opened his phone and checked the files regarding the 7 mysteries and the newest entry, the Drifting Classroom had also been updated as solved. Just like what the two said before, they will work with the mystery and solve it. But Kazuma is still feeling a little down at the fact that he didn't get to participate and he was even forced to not join on the job.

He returned to class when he heard some students speaking in a hushed tone. He didn't intentionally listen but he heard bits of it.

"Oh yeah, senpai. What happened earlier in the pool? I saw you with the other students there and the situation seems to be a bit odd. Did something happen?" the kouhai of the guy who seemed to be also on the swimming team asked.

"Ah, you saw that? Well, an accident happened and all 5 of our swimmers who were currently swimming for early practice suddenly drowned in the pool, simultaneously. We managed to save them from certain danger but we don't know if they are already in stable condition as we decided to send them to hospital. One was able to survive that and keeps telling everyone that someone dragged her foot underwater."

The guy continued to talk about what happened but Kazuma couldn't hear anymore after they had gotten a lot farther. However, the bits he heard seemed to be enough now for Kazuma. After all, it seems to be something that is not typical for a swimmer. The fact that all 5 of the current pool swimmers drowned, and the fact one of them got to know managed to survive and tell everyone that someone grabbed him on his leg, then it only means one thing. Something is in there and he suspects this is the sixth mystery.

He hurries back to his classroom the moment the bell rings but he is determined to learn whether his prediction is right. For some dumb reason, he also decided that he wanted to prove to himself that he could do it even though he was a beginner.

...

...

...

Lunch break. It was the usual time for Kazuma to go and check the pool when Moonlight called him.

"Kazuma."

"Yes? Something wrong?" Kazuma looked at Moonlight.

"Nothing wrong but I have to speak to you. It's about your current "task" right now. Can you join me for this lunch? I have something to tell you about it."

Hearing that this was about the Magician's work, he nodded and the two decided to head to the cafeteria. Both had no lunch so both also decided to buy something to eat.

Moonlight is pretty silent about it and although Kazuma is somewhat ready to ask her about her reason for calling him, he decides that he should just let her do it instead of nagging her about it. Besides, if it is about their work, then it must mean some kind of private matter that needs to be discussed where no one else can hear other than them and the cafeteria is not a good place for that. Yet, his curiosity is getting at him. But he kept his cool and kept his patience.

They finished buying their food and Moonlight gestured him to follow her. He silently followed her and waited for what would happen next. After a while, they soon arrived at the locked rooftop door. Moonlight casually waved her hands and the lock opened.

"Come inside. We will talk here and no one will disturb us."

Although not sure what they were gonna talk about, Kazuma decided to follow suit. She snapped her fingers and the door locked once more. She sat down on the nearby bench and Kazuma did the same.

"Since no one will disturb us here, let me tell you something. I can see a promise from you of becoming a good Magician who can handle himself. But seeing some of your actions, I don't know if you are unaware of the dangers of our work or you are just too oblivious to it that you do not care whether the enemy is strong or not."

"What are you saying?" Kazuma frowned.

"Catmod told me everything. As much as you are trying to make the task go well, you seem to be more ready to die than to complete the request. You are not ready and yet you decided to confront a strong Qlipoth on your own. Isn't that suicidal?"

Kazuma couldn't say anything about it. After all, what she said is true, and if not for the help of Raigaki and Rena, then he would have been dead meat.

"I just wanted to ensure that I get to help the team. I am still starting this journey and I don't want to be a burden from this task. And since I barely contribute to the job, I wanted to at least make a good and decent way to solve things."

Moonlight shook her head. "But what does that do if you die as a result? It's not a good thing because it isn't. Based on the reports, it seems you are doing a much better job than most beginners do. So be proud of yourself."

"However, because of that, you are also quite impulsive and ready to throw your life away. I cannot disregard you any longer than I should do. Because of this, I finally decided that I will help you to get stronger. As much as this is a big hassle for me, I think it is time for me to at least make you somewhat of a decent magician. However, don't expect to become good by receiving guidance from me. You will still need to walk your path. This is a win for both of us. Not only will you improve but if you get paired with me for a job again, you won't be a pain in the *ss as a teammate to have."
