That must have caught the glowing ball off guard, since we both just ended up staring at each other for a while (at least I think it was staring at me, I have no idea what that ball's anatomy is). Finally, the glowing ball decides that we have wasted enough time and tries again.
"Tell me, Li Anjing, do you wish to live on?"
Well that wasn't very imaginative, it just reused the same line from before. I'm starting to wonder if this thing is even sentient, or if its like some automated messaging system.
Speaking of which, why is it that for all the resources available in the Mountains and Seas Realm it still doesn't have cell phones? Sigh, looks like I got distracted again.
If I were to be honest with myself, I don't really see a purpose in living. Not only have I completed my goal and destroyed the Longevity Sect, I also don't really have anything or anyone I cherish. Even before my village was destroyed, I sort of just drifted about aimlessly, without any real goals.
Damn, my life is sad. Well, wallowing in self pity won't do anything, so I guess I should clarify my situation.
"Why did you pick me specifically? To be honest, even if I was at Peak Spirit Circle cultivation I had only condensed a Second-Class Slaughter Circle, and I can list close to 50 people who are at or above my level of strength. Not to mention that after utilizing my Fallen Angel Technique, my cultivation is all but gone anyways."
These were both my honest considerations and a probe of sorts, as I had no idea what the glowing ball knew about me. If I could understand its motives, moving forwards I could get a better grasp of what powers it represented.
After all, if I was in a conversation with a representative for a Devil then I was better off just dying now.
The ball seemed to pause for a moment, then asked:
"How much do you know about the Spiritual Tide?"
Well that doesn't really answer my question, does it? Sigh, let me think for a moment... Ah, I remember now!
The Spiritual Tide was an event that occurred on a semi-millennial basis, where the Celestial Bodies would align and generate an enormous amount of Spiritual Energy, ushering in a golden age of cultivation.
Unfortunately, I later found out that the "Celestial Bodies aligning" was just a trigger for the activation of a Calamity Rank Super-Weapon designed by the Heavenly Courts that would cause natural disasters, killing a huge number of mortals and refining their blood essence into Spiritual Energy.
"That is actually a false Spiritual Tide, and is a perversion towards Heaven."
Holy shit, did that thing just read my mind!?
"Indeed, it isn't really that hard considering what I am. Anyways, I suppose I should clarify your understanding towards the Spiritual Tide. You see, Heaven has decreed that nothing may last forever, and this extends to Realms as well. However the natural instinct of myriad things is survival, and that includes the Spiritual Energy of the Realm. Thus, a true Spiritual Tide is the migration of Spiritual Energy of one Realm towards another. And I am the Will of the Mountains and Seas Realm Spiritual Energy!"
"Cool story, but that still doesn't explain what this has to do with me."
"You were selected for a single reason; because the destination of the Spiritual Tide is Earth, which just so happens to be where your soul originates from!"
Huh, I didn't think the glowing ball would know about that. Then again, if this thing really is the Will of an entire Realm's Spiritual Energy it makes sense for it to notice. Oops, looks like he's still talking, I better start paying attention again.
"... and thus, as someone who's soul is capable of absorbing Earth Realm and Mountains and Seas Realm Spiritual Energy you are the only choice! So do you agree?"
And just as I'm about to reject its request (because honestly, I don't really give a crap about either Realm), it makes me an offer I can't refuse:
"If you bear this undertaking, I will grant you the opportunity to speak to her again."
The moment the ball made that statement, time seemed to stop. If I really can see her again, even if its for just a moment... it would be worth it.
Granted, I had no idea if the orb was telling the truth, but what can I say? Even an uncertain promise is better than nothing. Besides, what else do I have to live for?
"Alright, glowing ball, tell me what I have to do."
