Dawn had beat her husband to keep watch. It had not been the norm lately. He was usually up first so she was a bit surprised.
It was foggy today, which made it feel a bit chilly. Which made her a bit impatient for Arrion to come join her. She wanted to snuggle into his warm body.
She heard his footsteps after a moment of waiting and turned to look at him. He looked somewhat different now. It took her a while to realize why.
He had changed up his appearance so he looked more like she was used to her husband looking like. Shorter hair, he had fixed his nose, and cleaned up his overall appearance. His smile was still the same though – that had not really been off in the first place.
She patted the ground beside her, asking him to sit. Arrion dropped down beside her and almost immediately lightly pulled her into his side. "Cold, dear? I saw you shivering as I walked over…"
She nestled herself into him, a feeling of satisfaction welling up inside of her. He could at times be thoughtful, even if he did have the tendency to tease. She would not change that about him though. His teasing was something she might actually like. Whether it was that it was him, or because it had helped her feel at home with him, she was not sure.
But she was good with being teased.
"If the ground is cold you can climb into my lap." His eyes were twinkling as he looked into her face. He looked sweet, even as he was half teasing her.
She lightly pecked his lips and then did climb into his lap. It was much warmer than sitting on the ground. And besides… she rather liked the feel of his legs underneath her.
It made her so very aware that he was here with her. She still found it a bit hard to wrap herself around the fact that he was alive and well and she had not lost him.
It was wonderful…
"Are you crying?" Arrion looked puzzled as he began trying to wipe the tears that had started rolling down her cheeks. "What is wrong, my queen?"
She choked up just a little, and then buried her head against his chest, "I'm just happy that I got the chance to be a better wife…"
"…" A kiss landed on the top of her head, just a light soft pressure that lingered. "Mm…. I love you too sweetheart…"
"I know that." She let out a watery giggle.
He did not pull away from where he was still pressing his lips to her hair.
She shifted in his arms, then looked up at him and spoke quietly and teasingly, "But… you changed up your appearance?"
"I was not going to stay in that messy appearance." He laughed softly. "It was a bit odd, even for me…"
"I was getting used to it." She laughed softly, "But I like this appearance rather well… it is how you looked when we first met."
"I tend to keep my appearance the same. Polite to others so I don't confuse them…"
She said nothing, instead just wiggled herself deeper into his arms. She was happy to see him looking more like himself – it gave an impression of him having shaken off his confusion. Whether that was completely true or not she was not sure, but he did seem more put together now.
