The blow did not connect with her. Instead, it slid into the arm of one of her teammates.
Dawn's eyes widened as she looked at Raven. He had just purposely let himself get stabbed to keep her from getting hurt. Of course, it was a lesser wound to what she would have suffered but it looked rather deep as it was.
But his face just looked a bit angry and annoyed at most. It seemed like he was utterly ignoring the pain and instead giving a death stare to the man in front of him.
Dawn did not bother with just acting surprised. She took the opportunity and stabbed the startled man who had not been expecting someone to actually take a blow for her.
She looked around and noticed that most of the men had now been downed. There were only seven left. Six. One had just been shot by an arrow in the chest.
Her companions made short work of them. Dawn looked around, checking on them. They might be a bit worse for wear but everyone had survived. There were some wounds on several of them, but none as bad as the one Raven had suffered.
She turned to look at him, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Just a small scratch really." He gave her a cheerful grin. "I'll bind it up, and then it will be good. No need for any magical healing."
Not believing him, Dawn frowned at him, all her prior unhappiness at his behavior becoming secondary to the fact that he was hurt. Even if she was upset with him, she still did care about him. "It looks painful. You really should have one of the clerics heal it."
Stubbornly, the man shook his head. "It doesn't hurt that bad. And besides… I have fairly high pain tolerance. This is but a graze really. It will heal soon enough."
Her frown deepened. She was now upset with him for a whole new reason. Why was he being so stubborn about his own wellbeing? "Raven. You swore yourself into my service didn't you? Which means that you promised to listen to me. Go get healed."
"…" He sighed, "Let the others get healed first, my queen. I have a pretty good natural healing rate, from what I can remember."
Dawn just gave him a look, then turned away. He was pretty stubborn about this. But at least she now had a slight understanding of why. He was trying to be considerate of others.
Even not looking at him, Dawn knew that he was binding his own wound. She looked back deciding to offer to help him, but paused when she saw just how skillfully he was doing it. Like he had done it many times before.
Dawn decided that she should just ignore the stubborn male. There was no real point arguing with him, especially as he was totally not listening to her.
She would just leave him to nursing his own wound in his own little bubble of self-sufficiency. She was done trying to persuade him. Was this normal for men to be so stubborn?
