Chapter 71 - A Good Listener

It was a relief being able to talk about her grief with someone. Dawn had not fully realized just how much she needed it.

And Raven was an attentive listener. He did not say much while she was talking, but it was quite obvious he was genuinely interested in hearing whatever she had to say about her loss.

She found herself talking again to him as they were riding together.

"Heh. He really does sound quite wonderful the way you talk about him." Raven had a small smile on his lips as he commented after listening to her for half the morning. "Anyone would be happy to have their beloved talk about them like that."

"Arrion was the best man I ever met." Dawn's smile was a little sad. "Everyone liked him, you know. Even if he teased them or messed with their heads a little, they still liked him. He was simply wonderful as a person, a king, and as a husband… I assume he would have been just as good of a father if we had ever…"

She trailed off with a sigh. She wondered what would have happened if they had had children. He would have been so happy. He had always loved children, almost as much as he had adored her. It would have made him so ecstatic to have a child with her.

She was brought our of her thoughts by Raven placing his hand over hers in a comforting gesture, "It's alright Dawn. It's only natural to feel down… You must have loved him a lot, huh?"

She nodded silently, "Yes. More than I ever knew."

A thoughtful look came onto Raven's face as he turned away from her. He said nothing though and fell quiet. He did squeeze her hand though before withdrawing his own.

She turned her focus to the road, her throat had a strange tightness to it. Though it made her feel better being able to talk about it, it still made it hard not to cry.

She managed to keep the tears from falling but it definitely made her want to burst into tears.

She heard a slight argument starting up behind her and turned her head to look. It was Brilma and Colton.

With a shake of her head she turned back. It was fairly normal after all, those two had at least one argument a day. Not even necessarily because they actually disagreed but just for the sake of it. It was a bit annoying at times, even though they were actually rather sweet people.

Not that she really had a right to complain with how much she had always argued with Arrion. He had almost always won those arguments, being able to talk circles around her. Even though, he had occasionally let her win.

It had always been nice even if she had known he was only humoring her. Honestly, she knew she had never been her husband's match when it came to putting forth an argument.
