Chapter 3 - chp 2

Just before I had a chance to drive off, my stomach growled loudly. The two boys took on confused looks, then a look of understanding.

"Are you hungry?" The dark haired one asked, then said "we have food back at our base..."

I didn't answer, but I didn't drive off. My stomach has betrayed me. I almost climbed out too. But I pulled myself back to reality. People are cruel in the real world, they killed my brother, they caused what happened to my mother. I drove off.

I was back at Vegas in a matter of minutes. I guess I was driving faster than I intended. I quickly forgot about my hunger and ended updestroying my father's old room...Again.

He was part of the reason my brother was dead. He made sure Max went to fight. He threatened that he'd leave me out during the next bombing of he didn't leave. Then my brother never came back, dad went to look for him and he never came back either.

I disregarded the discomfort in my stomach and passed out on my bed. I never wanted to get up again. I just wanted to stay in bed, pretend I lived in the world my grandma had described to me. A place where I don't have to worry about dying every day.

I fell asleep quickly.

**

"Nara, your not going to eat diner if you cannot hit the target" Mother yelled in my face

"I'm trying. It's too far and this gun is hea-"

She'd slapped me

"Stop complaining and hit the target!"

Mother stormed off when i failed a few more times. Max messed up my hair.

"Don't mind her, it's only because they killed her sister that she acts like this. She just wants us to be able to protect ourselves" he said, then adjusted the gun in my hands to an angle "now shoot"

I finally hit the target. I saw Max smiling at my expression.

"how?"

"when it's farther away, you aim a little higher than where it really is..." he explained

"Max, are you really going to go and fight?" I asked

"I have to. I have to make sure it's safe for you" he said, messing up my hair once again "I'm leaving now. wish me luck"

"Okay"

A loud sound from outside yanked me from my sleep. Someone was banging on the door of my house. I had a pretty good idea who it was too. I got up out of bed and went downstairs. Looking out the window, I saw both of them outside.

I also saw a few shadows coming towards the house in slow, jagged movements. Those people were infected.

"Let us in!" the one with darker hair said

They were scared of them, which most likely meant the weren't armed. As the infected got closer, they both got down to the ground. Wow they gave up that easily. The infected got a little closer before I opened the door and pulled them both in. I shot the four that were tearing up the fence then shut the door. They were still on the floor.

"Crybabies" I mumbled under my breath before I head back upstairs to see if more were coming

From my mother's room I could see the entire front of our house. There were only about twenty, which meant we got lucky. They lead a small heard to the front of my house, and they were going to get it.

I opened the window and started to take them down. Some where quicker than the orher and started scaling the building. I got most of them, but a few broke windows downstairs. I could tell because the two boys came running up. It was obvious that they weren't from the US or else they would've been trained properly. They were probably from some island, like Hawaii or the bahamas. The islands were the only places unaffected by war.

"what are those things?" Blondie asked

I didn't answer him, instead I shot one tha was coming up the stairs. There were way more than I first thought. This is going to be a problem.
