Mia's POV
~My days this way will never release me and will forever be a curse. I'm not fully human and hurts me to lie about what I am to anyone I care and love about, while will put them in more danger and I'll never forgive myself from the dangers that lurks around every corner when I'm around.~
A few days earlier
The first day back at school as a Sophomore, as I walk into Thrilling Hills High School; I see nothing has changed still the same as always. I don't know why but I want something to change for once, as I was thinking in my mind; I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Hey Mia!", it was my best friend Raven, the girl that always lights up the room when she smiles and says hi. "Hey Rav."
"Wow I can't believe we're Sophomores, it feels like I'm becoming a grown-ass woman." she said with confidence and i know what's she's like when she becomes way too confident. "Well I see there's confidence on your right side." I said while smiling at her hoping she get all sassy at because its hilarious as hell "Whatever Mia, you just lucky that you have a best friend who always makes you smile when you don't want to." Yeah she did have a point there, she hates it when I don't smile that much; which makes her think I'm gloomy..... and I'm not I just not the smiling type especially when it comes to pictures. We to walk to our lockers and talked about our classes and wondered of we could see our other friends in the classes that we're in, lucky for Raven and I; we are in some classes together. "Have you texted Kate or Vanessa?" I asked, "Yeah they on there way over here." Raven said as she finished getting her stuff from her locker.
*bell rings*
"I guess thats the signal for hell." I said rolling my eyes, of course Raven would snicker, yet I also snickered as well. As we walked we started looking for our classes and the only good news is that Raven and I have the 1st period together and the bad news.... I couldn't think of right now. As classes went on, it was lunchtime and as I was eating, Raven came out of nowhere and I can tell she was out of breath by her panting, "Raven what's wrong?" I asked looking at her worried, "I have seen Kate and Vanessa?" "No I haven't seen them all day today." Honestly I noticed they weren't here but I thought it wasn't a big deal; then Raven continued, "Well I haven't got a text from either of them, I even tried calling them but they won't answer their phones!" I can tell Raven was freaking out and worried and so was I (except the freaking out part) "You wanna find them after school?" I ask hoping Raven would say yes and forget her plans, "Yes, definitely." A few hours passed during school hours which have been hell mainly because Raven and I have been worried about our friends all day, but finally school was over and we decided to go to Kate's house first then Vanessa's but we couldn't go right away because our parents wants us to do homework before going to a friend's house. Raven and I had to part ways for now.
After Raven and I finished our homework, the sun has set and it was time to go see Kate and Vanessa. Raven was on her way to the forest so I can meet her there, I even told my mother that I was gonna visit my friends, obviously she said yes but I didn't tell her what was really going on. I finally made to the forest and found Raven standing alone next to the thin tree we swinged on when we were little, "Hey Raven!" I said walking up to her, "Got anything from them?" I asked worried "No" Raven said while she pacing back and forth, "Ok we need to go Kate's house right now before we get eaten out here and I don't plan on being a deranged animal chief special tonight thank you very much, I said with sarcasm and concern tone in my voice. "Oh trust me your not the only one." Raven said as we started walking out the forest.
I took a few blocks but we finally got to Kate's house, I walk up on the door step and rang the doorbell the first time no answer, and then I ranged it again.... no answer. Raven and I started to get worried even more so we look through the windows, yet it was dark and empty. "See anything.... or anyone?" Raven asked looking through the window, "Nope, I see a lot of things but I see nobody." We realized that we are wasting our time by looking through the window. So we decided to go to Vanessa's house until we heard a female scream in the woods, we ran into the woods as fast as we could; until the screams have stopped it was quite.... then we heard twig snap and Raven and I duck down to the ground filled with leaves, and sticks. Raven and I were on the ground scared as hell waiting to see if the screams of a woman comes back in our eardrums but no sound and it was so dark we couldn't see anything. Raven was holding on to me on my arm, I can tell she was scared hoping this was a nightmare but it wasn't everything was real. "Mia we need to get out of here." Raven was begging to leave and go home, "What about the woman?" I whispered, "What about her?" "We can't just leave her here." I said looking at her worried, "Mia the woman is probably dead, we only heard one scream, so can we please get out of here?", just as about to say another word, we heard a low growl and it sounded like a animal and thats when we took off running through the dark forest filled with trees, ducking and dodging god knows what. As I was running, I felt something trip me on my ankle and made fall down a hill; I look around with a blurry vision and knew Raven wasn't beside me either when I fell....she vanished. I tried to move but I couldn't, my whole body hurts and I didn't care because the animal was getting close. I tried to get up but something took me by a painful surprise..... The animal bit me; I screamed so loud I'm sure the can hear me, my vision was still blurry I couldn't see what it was because it was so dark. I tried getting out of its hold of the bite in my left I kicked and screamed and I dont know how but I landed a punch on the animals face nd it released my arm and I took off running and didn't care about the pain I just wanted to home as soon as possible and didn't turn back. Once I got home I snuck in through my window because I didn't want to wake my mom up. I went straight to the bathroom and examine my left arm the bite was big and needed to patch it up before my mom notices it tomorrow. After I patched up I changed into my night clothes and went to bed, but I couldn't sleep; so many thoughts ran through my cranium, like what the hell was that in the forest?, what happened to Raven?, where did she go?, is she ok?, where did that scream come from?, where are my best friends,? and mostly..... Whats gonna happen to me?
