"You see... I neglected my job as a Reaper by killing everyone on sight one fine day. As a result, I got fired and was left to wander the Void without seeing anything. It was my punishment for committing the most serious crime done by a Grim Reaper."
"And to be clear, there is a fleet of Grim Reapers on Earth at every given time, so me being gone from the records isn't going to harm the Order of Life and Death. But anyway, after meeting the Valkyries, I ended up being in the Void, an area between realms across time and space."
"I forgot how long was I there until a summon came for me. Someone had taken an item belonging to me from when I was still alive to summon me back into a realm. At first, I wasn't sure if this place was the same realm I was born and worked at, but after Mavislin and that Slayer, I am positive."
"The someone who had summoned me was none other than your father, giving me only one task to fulfill in exchange for walking on the planet again. To take care of you until he can meet his children. So long as I delivered my end of the bargain, I can continue living as if I was alive again."
"And I chose to answer the call because you reminded me of how helpless I was to save the orphans of my past lover," explained the Ankou, trying to get it all out in one breath.
"So it's guilt that led you to use my body as a vessel to walk on this world again?" questioned Duncan, folding his arms across his chest.
"Yes, you can say that. And until your father comes back to see you, I would be in your body to guide you as a Mage. Technically, your father is my summoner, and I answer to him, but because he is out of sight and reaches, you are the next person for me to receive orders from."
"And I'm sure that somewhere in your journey, you would come to find your father alongside your twin. It's only natural for a child to seek their parent," explained the Ankou.
"My father is probably the last person I would like to meet since I've got no clue about who or what he is."
"You sound as if your father was a bad person when you hadn't met him yet."
"That's the thing! I have yet to meet my father when other people have a chance to live with theirs! He is supposed to be my father, right?! A parent's job is to be there for their children when they are in pain or tortured by random people in white robes!"
"Of course, I would hate that 'father' of mine since he nowhere to be found for a good ten over years of my tortured, disgraceful and pathetic life!" roared Duncan, getting even more riled up.
Duncan realized he was getting too emotional about something that could never be undone, so he took a deep breath and sighed.
"Look... I'm not kicking you out until I've grown older, but you have to go at some point. I mean, you want to be in your own body... And be free to roam about and use your powers freely without my physical and mental limits."
"How about now? Will you still let me stay despite who my true Master is? Because I don't like being alone anymore..."
"Of course, I'm going to let you stay! Without you, I'm dead! As for being alone, you are surrounded by people dying to know you. If you want, I can ask Mother Mav if there's a way to give you a physical form. Let's finish this battle, and we can get going for dinner, alright? I'm starving here..."
The Ankou's face brightened as Duncan held his hand to him.
"Alrighty then, let's show the child of winds how powerful we can be at max force. Let's give two Frames, I'll pick the first one, and you can pick the second one."
"Sounds fine to me."
In the physical realm, Nasima was shocked at what Duncan had done. Earlier, Duncan sliced Nasima's spear in half. Now, the child of Darkness was strong enough to block the javelin with a single hand gesture.
Even Amani needed to throw up a defense spell against her spear, and all Duncan needed to do was to hold up his hand?! That's not fair! Duncan sensed that Nasima was getting upset and cracked an evil grin.
The film strips were still hanging around Duncan when Nasima threw her weapon, but they weren't touching Duncan. With a snap of a finger, the strips of films increased as Duncan mumbled something inaudible for anyone to hear.
