Chapter 588 - The Ark Of The Reaper And Valkyrie

"I never thought that the twins would have spirits that have met me from my past. I guess this Universe is small enough that coincidence does happen, eh? If so, I'm sad to say the person who gave you that new look isn't alive anymore. Nevertheless, I'm glad that you are well."

Mavislin felt a tinge of sadness as she remembered the days she would spend traveling to new worlds with her mother, the Empress of Valokia. But the Valkyrie quickly shook her head as she focused back on the two kids' duel. But Tomoe, being a master of hiding, knew something was up.

"Are you alright? Did Duncan remind you of someone? An old lover? Because with that get up, it looks like that boy is going far with the ladies of the nobles," asked the Kitsune, giving a sly smile.

"Yes. But he must've forgotten about me since it was so long ago. A moment in time that would forever be lost to the stars and wake of war. Ah, a time where my mother still lived and my brother was still an innocent child," answered Mavislin, smiling sadly.

Z noticed the Kitsune had gone too far with his casual remarks and yanked onto his tail. Tomoe couldn't help but scream in pain while the children huddled close to the Valkyrie. Almost as if they were trying to shield her from the fox.

Back to the duel, Midori needed to hurry to use Arondight before she could end up being overwhelmed by Duncan's Element. After all, the boy's power was still deadly to the average Mage, even if he was just a kid.

"Hail! The Lady Of the Lake has given her final verdict. Break the barriers! Honor the King! Shine valiantly like the times when you were used to slaying the many foes that cross your path... Embrace the end... The closure of the tale but do not let the light go out!" yelled Midori.

A torrent of blue light erupted from the blade-like how Mordred's sword had been engulfed by light from the day before. Duncan knew his twin would be powerful as him, but she lacked one more special skill that would eventually determine the battle's winner.

"Are you sure to use this, young boy? I don't mind it, but once you know what could become of your body with excessive use of this, you might regret your choice now. But if that doesn't stop you, then I'm not in any position to say anything. Just know the Blood Element is arduous to use."

"And sending it to overdrive means that this is a one or null clash. If you don't win, you can't use any more attacks. With that said, I grant you luck."

Duncan scoffed at the Ankou for such useless advice. But, of course, there's no such thing as power without sacrifice. It's just how the world works. And how society functions are that the ones who have gained strength and survived the rejections are the ones that deserve to live.

"Final Frame: Epilogue. Death Scythe Of The Grim Reaper!" yelled Duncan.

"Unfading Light of the Lake; Arondight!" shouted Midori as she brought her sword down, creating a colossal slash of blue light.

The slash raced towards Duncan, gripping onto a black Elemental Energy weapon and purple hue. As the audience got a better look at the fight, Duncan held onto a scythe that looked vaguely familiar in Mavislin's memories. It was also then when the Ankou had seen the Valkyrie.

A better way to rephrase it would be the Reaper within Duncan could finally see the Valkyrie face to face since he had reached a specific bond level with the child. Before that, all the Reaper could do was reside in the boy's mind and give him extra powers when needed.

He could only hear the child's thoughts and conversations in the real world but not see the faces. But now, as Duncan continued to battle Midori, the Ankou had a chance to see the Valkyrie once more. But, it wasn't the Empress, and judging by her name... She was that little girl.

The Reaper wanted to speak out about his wishes to meet the Empress again but remained silent. He couldn't since he didn't have a physical form anymore, not after what he had done. But listening to the Valkyrie speak was similar to all those years ago when speaking with the Empress.

A calm voice and a beautiful lady with dashing looks and armor... And a baby girl who loved to devour on the fallen's corpses as nourishment to grow stronger. The Gods Of War across the Universe, and he had a chance to cross their paths.

An idea came to his mind: What would happen if Mavislin recognized me? That'd be interesting.
