This time, Mordred looked furious at the King, who remained silent. No one else was there with them.
"You won't see me as your son? So that's your final say on this, King Of Knights?" asked Mordred, trembling.
The King merely said nothing and proceeded to walk away. Mordred's eyes darkened as she looked down at her shivering hands of anger. Midori made another note that the child could never see the King's eyes when she saw the King.
Most likely, it was because Midori was in Mordred's memories. However, the Knight Of Rebellion did mention several times that the King could never look at her in the eye, so that's why she wouldn't have recollections of the King's eyes.
"I was happy to be following in your footsteps. But you never once... Looked at me," muttered Mordred.
With a burst of anger, Mordred roared out the threat that would eventually destroy King Arthur's reign.
"I will destroy everything you represent! I'll run this kingdom to the ground! You hear me, ARTHUR!" shouted Mordred as the area turned black.
Now, there was nothing but pitch-black darkness all around Midori. Mordred stood in front of the child without her armor but with a face filled with sadness.
"One thing led to another, and we dueled to our last breath on top the Hill of Camlann. But, to be honest, I didn't want to go down that path. Had the King just looked me in the eye for one time and saw me as a person, I wouldn't have destroyed his reign," confessed Mordred.
Midori smiled as she went up to the Knight of Rebellion. The child then leaped upwards and gave a big hug towards the shocked Mordred.
"That's why you reacted the way you did when Lady Roydon accepted you as an equal in the fight. I guess you loved your father as any child would, but your father couldn't bring himself to acknowledge you. I can't say that I understand, but I'm giving the only thing I know..."
"A big hug! I accept you to be my friend if you're okay with it. And Lady Roydon would be happy to know I finally found new friends outside the experiment zone!" cheered Midori happily.
Mordred was still shocked as Midori hugged her tighter and snuggled against her face. But the Knight of Rebellion loosened up and hugged the young fox back.
"I'm getting the hint that your respect towards Lady Roydon was my respect to the King before he rejected me. I cannot recall my days with that Valkyrie in this form, but I felt nostalgic when I heard her voice during the final clash," said Mordred, closing her eyes.
"I respect Lady Roydon for a different reason from you. You respected the King because it was what everyone was doing. The Promised King, the one who drew the sword from the stone. The respect wasn't earned; that's why you felt so upset when the King rejected you."
"Blindly following someone into battle is akin to suicide. Especially if that someone doesn't look you in the eyes, I would have rejected him when I was forced to work under him. It's my theory and thoughts, but you don't have to agree with me about it. I get where you're coming from as well."
"I followed Lady Roydon because of one thing. A straightforward thing. She saved our lives from hell we were born into. My brother had been broken to the point that he couldn't feel any emotion anymore. But once we saw that Valkyrie reaching out to us, it was like being reborn to a better life."
"We were not wanted at all. Our 'mothers' were prostitutes that were being kidnapped and impregnated with the seed from an unnamed Mage. As a result, I was born deaf until I was given blood by an unknown Mage who had healing powers. Now, my sense of hearing is beyond human."
"We were born as experimental meats for the doctors and researchers to inject poison into us, hoping to find antidotes for the diseased people in the above world. We did not have thought to understand what was happening to us. Only endless pain and suffering."
The dark area switch to Midori's memories of being in the underground of Albion. The sight of rotting bodies and starving children was everywhere as Mordred found herself looking at the horrors of the Infinite Experiment Chambers.
Midori vanished from the Knight's arms and stood in the middle of the eerie room. Then, with an abrupt swing of a door, the area lit up in a sickish glow of green, revealing a table with rubber straps in the middle of the room. A man stood at the doorway with a torch in hand for a while.
