But what Mavislin couldn't foresee is that Midori was very close to killing Rina had Duncan not stepped in. So the twins were the only ones that needed limiters to be placed on them. This was to prevent Midori from imploding and Duncan from killing everyone around him.
Mavislin felt a solid connection to the two kids in front of her. She recalled the time back in Valokia when she defended her twin from bullies. And one of the main reasons was that Benjamin and Mavislin had powers no one could top unless they were the adults.
However, the reality now is that Midori wasn't treating Rina with respect, and Rina didn't fulfill her duties as a senior and trainer. No matter what, both these girls were guilty, and no amount of reason will prove them innocent.
"Rina. Was Duncan's account of the events unfolding positively?" asked Mavislin, making sure that the kids won't understand their conversation.
"Affirmative. I admit to having provoked my student while in combat training. However, I mistakenly thought her strikes had a malintent against me. Thus, I completely accept my punishment for placing a child in danger," replied Rina, with her hands shaking.
Hm... Rina isn't lying about that statement she gave... But she does sound extremely nervous and retracted most of the information she had initially stated. Well, that is to be understood since it was Mavislin that was doing the interrogation.
The last time Valkyrie interrogated Rina, the Butterfly Girl was knocked out of her senses. However, Rina should have stood her ground as a teacher to enforce that throwing emotions into a friendly match wasn't right.
"Rina. My order for you was to test out their offensive and defensive spells. The longest for each kid should've been only half an hour. So why did you not halt the battle before it went out of hand?" asked Mavislin, still holding the same expression.
Rina was silent as she racked her brain for the answer. Raiyen raised his eyebrows at Baldwin and Ashley, hoping that they would give a reason for allowing the duel to extend. But to everyone's surprise, it was Midori who stepped up to answer Mavislin.
"I fought with her because I didn't like her. She was one of the doctors that chopped off my arm, and I refused to see her as a teacher. So I was the one to make the first move and continue the fight. I don't regret my choice whatsoever," said Midori, brimming with confidence.
Ashley's jaw dropped as he heard those words come out. Rina couldn't muster up any comments, so she remained quiet. Mavislin closed her eyes and let out a sigh. Another surprise from the fraternal twins of the Pillars. What was the Valkyrie expecting?
Seeing her brother act like that, one would think his sister would do the same.
"Is that so, Midori? Are you more powerful than Rina?" asked Mavislin, with her fringe covering her eyes.
No answer. Even Duncan had nothing to say.
"I'll ask again, Midori. Do you think that you are more powerful than my Spearman Pillar?"
"Yes. I think I am better than Rina within the realm of combat," answered Midori.
"Interesting that you think so. Are you saying that you are overstepping my decision to make Rina my First Seat? Because the way you say about my Butterfly Girl would imply that you can be a First Seat Pillar," asked Mavislin, with her words dunked in poison.
"If that's how you think, how about this. I challenge you to a duel. You can use whatever you like. You can release as much power to fight me. But in turn, I will be going full strength on you. Let's see if you can exceed my expectations of Rina," challenged Mavislin.
Baldwin and Tomoe looked at each other for confirmation on what the Valkyrie had just said. Ashley could only pretend that Mavislin had said nothing for the last second. Bryan was also stunned but not too much since he trusted Mavislin.
"If you do so, I'll automatically make you the next Swordsman Pillar and make Rina retire from the First Seat. That should be fair, right?"
Raiyen whispered something into the Valkyrie's ear.
"Hey, you're not genuine about this. I mean, she's just a child. Midori doesn't know the consequences of her actions or words. So cut her some slack, Mavislin. I'm worried that the kids would get a negative impression of you," said Raiyen.
"I'm dead certain on challenging her, but I won't kick Rina out from the Pillars. I am going at full strength, but I will not kill her. I need them to understand the power gap between us. So I have to give them a scare," murmured the Valkyrie, with an amused smile on her face.
