Gillian was shocked at that revelation. But not because he didn't know about the use of the emblem. Of course, the Headmaster knew what the emblems' service was. He created them by himself. Gillian didn't want anyone to learn about their uses until he'd explained to them.
The reason was that he didn't want to waste the emblem's potential. And the Founders' power. Remember, Gillian's ideas were different from the kind-hearted and compassionate Mavislin. His main thing was to protect his loved ones.
His position as a Headmaster forces this ideal quite well as he looks out for those that have already sworn alliance with him and his family. Those Mages that work for him would have shelter, food, jobs, and protection from the best Mages of the world.
If Gillian were to show compassion to every person he met, it would lead to the organization's downfall. Just like how the Congregation had crumbled. Such ideals were foolish acts within his mind and conscience. However, he couldn't tell this to his first daughter.
Gillian never had kids, so he didn't know how to teach Mavislin his thinking of the world and its people. That's why Mavislin doesn't understand what Gillian is thinking most of the time. She knew how to read the rest of the Founders' hearts but never her adopted father's.
The Valkyrie took on Ysabeau's side of caring and compassion while having the stubbornness and strive of Gillian. Her temper could rise as high as the Angry Man, and she could also be as patient as Z. Her timing on situations and feelings were just like the Time Mage's behavior.
Mavislin had grown up with this family for so long and was a mix of everyone. And yet, she'd hold a unique personality, one that says that she is true to herself without copying others. And it's the first thing underlings notice about her. The fact that she could see the potential in everyone.
This fact made her gullible in giving things to others, which often led to Gillian reprimanding her from time to time. And these altercations end with Mavislin sulking in one corner in her child form as Raiyen tries to make her happy.
But it didn't stop Gillian and Mavislin from working together in unison. She could see the people's hearts while Gillian saw the needs of the crowd what they needed to survive and keep living. That's why he didn't let the rest know about the emblems' proper use.
Because if the Founder kept channeling power into them all the time, that Founder would end up wasting all of their Elemental Energy. Sure, most of them have an abundance of Elemental Energy, but what about Z and Raiyen? The two of them didn't have a definite way of getting power.
And if a Mage loses all of their Elemental Energy, they will end up dying. So it's the main thing for the Elemental Core to keep running. Despite Gillian's careful steps, Mavislin could find out about using the emblems and use them to her advantage.
When the Valkyrie found out about it, Gillian requested her not to tell the rest. And he instructed her not to channel powers into every member's emblem. Only the ones that have been sent on dangerous missions. But she argued, saying that anything could happen.
Finally, they settled with a single decision. Mavislin could only channel powers to the First Seat of the Barren Pillars. It sounded fair for both sides, and it ended the discussion. Though, Gillian was still mixed with Mavislin trusting her members so quickly.
This case was mainly for Rina, for which Midori still harbored a grudge. Midori was right. The Flower Mage partially caused, all in all, the incidents of Albion. Had she not been involved or seen on sight taking the human girls, the Arks wouldn't have to step in. Ysabeau wouldn't have gone there.
The Five Kings wouldn't have lost a member, and the Arks wouldn't have a bunch of kids running around the Old Chapel. This whole ordeal is proof that Mavislin was still too trusting of Rina when she indirectly caused the death of Gab. It made Gillian slightly ticked off.
But Ysabeau talked him out of the mindset and allowed Mavislin to continue with her plans to build up an Orphanage. And she was also getting more members into her Barren Pillars. And to be honest, the kids won't have a reason or the right mind to attack Mavislin.
Gillian remained silent as he focused his attention on the fight between Rina and Midori. And Midori convinced him that she wasn't fighting Rina to try out her abilities or press to be in the Barren PIllars. Instead, the child was wholeheartedly angry and sought revenge on the Butterfly Girl.
