Chapter 474 - The Ark Of Midori's Past

First, however, Midori found herself on a barren and empty wasteland. Midori panicked as she walked around. This world was not her normal vision. Something was wrong. The girl's biggest worry was that she couldn't hear anything in the foreign land.

The Hearing Sense is one of the most needed senses of a being. Without it, you'll be left alone in the world, unable to hear what others are saying. Maybe it's for the best. Perhaps it's hell not to know what's the sound of a laugh or cry. But it's certainly a handicap without it.

Midori was born from human experimentation. Just like the kids of the Orphanage, she was subjected to unethical experiments. But she was born without the sense of hearing. After a few months, the doctors decided to pour the blood of a Mage into her ears.

Because of the recovery aspects of that particular Mage's blood, it could heal Midori's eardrums, but the doctors didn't know when to stop. Thus, Midori had blood being poured into her ears and pumped into her system for the next few years. This made her have a keen sense of hearing.

And ever since then, she liked to hear things. Be it the soft howls of the winds or someone else's thoughts. And when she heard the sound of the Valkyrie's voice, Midori was the happiest she could've been. A shining beacon of hope against the terrors of the dark.

Midori was subjected to the most brutal and insane experiments out of all the kids. It was to the point that the doctors had stopped her heart and tried replacing her blood with the Mage's blood. She was pronounced dead until her heart started pumping again.

It was not by a miracle but rather the power of the blood given to her. The blood could circulate through her body and mix with her immune system. It then changed the composition to fit the child and healed her heart. Her heart was no longer human as it pumped out the blood of Magecraft.

Whose blood was it? Which Mage in the right mind had donated so much blood to fuel an entire child's system? Unlike the rest of the kids, who were given the blood of a human Mage, A doctor gave Midori the blood of a Pure Mage. The First Generation of Mages.

The blood donated wasn't a lot. It was merely half a cup full. But because of the Mage's origin, the blood doubled overnight. Thus, the doctors needed something to contain the multiplying blood. They turned to Midori with a twisted grin.

Each scar that was made was being healed in an instant. So naturally, this sparked newfound cruelty with the experimenters. First, they decided to slash the poor girl every day. Then, one day, a doctor who had a bad temper decided to hack off her limbs. But after a day, they'd grown back.

The doctors were shocked and wanted to perform more tasks on her. Her mind went blank. Sure, she could heal each wound made, and a limb could grow after being cut. But, it doesn't negate the pain. The pain of having a limb sawed off broke her mind and sanity.

And she went into a catatonic state. Until she could hear the Valkyrie's team of rescue, when she woke up, her eyes were treated to the sight of a beautiful meadow. The Old Chapel was indeed a fantastic place. From then on, she regained her sanity back.

And it was all thanks to a Valkyrie that decided to take the small task of liberating the experiment site. However, Midori was still determined to find the one who gave her the blood. Because it not only saved her life, it destroyed her as well. It was a yin and yang situation.

She felt conflicted but was told to embrace that she was still alive. Midori found four other kids saved by her blood, which were the four other kids chosen. This changed their blood composition but not to the extreme of Midori's case.

At most, they can produce more blood and heal at a slower rate compared to Midori. Mavislin mentioned that having a heart-pumping out blood similar to a Mage would define her as a human Mage. With the help of Tomoe and Mavislin, Midori could calm down.

"What you've got pumping through you is the blood of a Pure Mage. But it doesn't define who you are. You are you. No one can change that. And you are in charge of being yourself. So just because your blood has been changed doesn't mean you have been changed."

Midori looked confused as she played with Tomoe's tail. Finally, the Kitsune sighed and pried her away from his tail. He then continued his explanation.
