It wasn't too much longer after lunch, when the chairman had finished reading and checking the documents. He decided that seeing Mack's signature and the embossed seals from the law office was enough proof and there was no need for additional verification.
Even though he was finished, he wasn't ready to leave. He continued to pretend to read while stealing glances at Chance.
The rest of the day continued like this.
Chance, on the other hand, was not completely oblivious to the old man.
Every now and then he could feel the chairman staring at him. He just ignored it and continued to work.
By the end of the day, Chairman Fischer had nothing to hold against Chance. He could only give up and retreat for now.
He stood up and walked over to the young CEO.
"Well, Mr. Addison, I can only think now that either Mack was deceived by you or he really saw some incredible value in you." He said as he placed the documents on Chance's desk.
"Thank you Mr. Fischer."
"Don't thank me just yet. I am only deferring my judgement, waiting for you to screw up. As soon as you do, I'll be after that seat." The old man reached out his hand.
"Understood." Chance took his hand and shook it firmly, accepting the chairman's challenge.
He let out a sigh of relief once the chairman had left.
Now, or at least for the moment, he didn't have to go to war with the old man or the board.
Chance looked around at his desk to see what he would need to finish tomorrow.
There were still a few reports he needed to go through in detail and there was the packet of information for the anniversary celebration.
Thanks to the impromptu board meeting, he still hadn't gotten to go through the guest list. Now it would have to wait until tomorrow.
He organized his file by importance for the next day and then was ready to go.
He stood up and stretched before going over to the door to get Koty and to let Fait know he was heading home for the night.
When he opened the door, in addition to Koty and Fait, there were three additional people outside getting some kind of instructions from Fait. She had just handed out a small envelope to each one.
As soon as she noticed Chance had come out of the office, she introduced him.
"This is Mr. Addison, the new CEO. He is very grateful for your excellent performance this morning and the reason you are receiving this bonus."
The group of secretaries nodded and sincerely thanked Chance for the acknowledgement.
"Thank you for your hard work." He replied with a smile, causing their hearts to flutter.
He then turned to Fait, "I'll be heading back now."
"Alright, see you tomorrow then."
"See you tomorrow."
Chance gestured for Koty to follow him and they made their way to the private elevator, unaware of the effect he had on Fait's secretaries.
After Fait dismissed them, they went back to their own work area to grab their things, chatting the whole way.
"That's our new boss?" The first one started.
"He's so young!" Exclaimed the second.
"And he's cute." Added the third.
"Cute? I didn't see anything too special about him. He is kind of average." The first returned.
"Didn't you see the way his eyes lit up when he smiled? And those dimples! He is handsome!" The third defended.
"I guess." The first still didn't see it.
"And he has got a nice build too! Couldn't you tell?" The third continued with her admiration.
"His suit really did hug all the right places." Sighed the second.
"You two should give up early. He won't have eyes for any of us." The first warned.
"Why not?!" The second and third exclaimed in unison. They already knew it was unlikely but how dare she say it so directly? Couldn't she let them dream?
"Because, he has Miss Foster."
The other two instantly agreed. Fait was a force to be reckoned with.
Plus, she treated the three of them extremely well and they all wished for her happiness.
They also noticed the gentle way Chance had spoken to Fait and that had made them all secretly hope there was a little more going one.
Just like that, the three secretaries came to an understanding that they would stay out of the way and not harbor feelings towards their young CEO.
If given the opportunity, they would help Fait and Chance with their relationship.
...
For some reason, as Fait was walking to her car, she got goosebumps. She wasn't sure why but it felt like someone had just launched a plot against her.
She shook it off and decided to be extra vigilant on her way home.
