Chereads / Second Chance Addison / Chapter 14 - How rich am I?

Chapter 14 - How rich am I?

Fait and Chance went back down the private elevator but this time, they didn't go to her car. Instead a blacked out Bentley smoothly pulled around to the elevator and stopped in front of them.

The driver's door opened and an older gentleman stepped out. The man looked very strict and proper. He was dressed in a full three piece suit and his leather shoes were perfectly shined. Not so much as a grey hair was out of place.

He walked around to the passenger side and opened the rear door.

"Miss Foster, it is a pleasure as always." He greeted as she climbed into the car.

"Likewise. Lola, this is Chance Addison, the new boss. Addison, meet Jack Lola, your driver." After quickly introducing the two, she slid across to the other seat.

Chance was stunned a moment when she said your driver. He was important enough to have a driver? And his driver had a Bentley? 'Just how rich am I?' He pinched himself to recover from the slight shock.

"Nice to meet you." Chance extended his hand to Lola.

"And you as well Mr. Addison." Lola accepted the handshake and then gestured to the car. "We should get going."

"Yes sir." Chance ducked into the car and Lola shut the door behind him.

"Where are we headed to?" Lola asked from the front seat.

"To the new apartment. Roy said it's ready." Fait instructed.

"Understood." Lola put the car in gear and headed out of the garage.

A little while later, they arrived at an ordinary apartment building. From the outside, there was nothing special about it. It was a just typical steel and concrete, mid-rise construction. It only had half a dozen floors. On the inside however, the building was packed with the latest and greatest security system. Even foreign dignitaries would rent some of the apartments from time to time. They knew they were guaranteed to be safe if they stayed there.

Just to use the elevator, residents had to swipe a key card and enter a passcode. Inside the elevator, they had to enter another passcode to get it to move. The doors to the stairs would only open from the interior corridors, so once you were in the stairwell, you had no choice but to go all the way down and exit the building.

Then there were the surveillance cameras and myriad of sensors. Thermal, infrared, motion, and others. Not so much as a fly could get into the building without alerting security.

Of course this also made deliveries a little inconvenient for the residents as well. Packages all had to be left at the security desk and checked before they could be picked up.

Lola dropped them off at the front door and watched them enter the building before leaving.

The pair greeted the on duty security guard and then proceeded to the elevator.

Chance's new home was a huge luxury apartment on the top floor. It had an open floor plan so the sitting room, kitchen, and dining area were all very spacious. There were also three bedrooms, an office, and three full bathrooms.

Once they were inside, Fait went over to the kitchen and started laying a number of things on the island countertop.

"Here's your new company ID, company credit card, some personal credit cards, bank card, apartment key card, and cell phone. The pin for the bank card is taped to the back for now, change it as you see fit. In the cell phone you'll find contact information for Lola, Roy, and myself." She reached into her bag and pulled out a folder and a laptop. First she put down the folder.

"Here is a brief overview of all of the information for the credit cards and your banking and investment information as well. Buy whatever you want for however much you want, I don't think you'll be able to exhaust your funds in the next 100 years." Then she placed the laptop on the counter. "This is also for you to use. It doesn't have a password yet, please add one. You can use it to work remotely, play online games, write a book, whatever you want. There is also a desktop computer in the office over there. Any questions?"

"Why is Roy the only one you call by his first name?" He started to think about this detail on the car ride over.

"Is that really what you should be concerned about right now?" She rolled her eyes and frowned.

"I suppose not, but you did ask if I had any questions."

"Do you have any questions about any of the items I just handed over to you?"

"Why isn't there a set of car keys?"

"Do you drive?"

He looked at her like she had grown a second head.

"Absolutely, I drive. I didn't hire a driver before because I didn't need one. Nothing against Jack, but I still don't think I need one." He had always felt like it was an unnecessary expense.
