The fireplace lit casting a shadow of two silhouettes, Kate sat hands locked together. Cameron sat beside her stroking his hands through her brunette hair. They spent countless days and nights in front of this fireplace. To recollect their busy lives. Cameron took a sip of wine, his brown eyes met Kate's.
"Things are dying down , but we still have a strong case" he said. He was referring to his work, he was a top notched lawyer. Cameron had studied law for most of his life. He graduated law school with top honors, and was envied by his peers.
He came from a middle class family, a hard work ethic was placed before him by his strict father, but he rose to the challenge. A tall handsome man, with intimidating features he met Kate right after graduating from college. He recalls that was one of the best years. Everything moved in a fast pace they were young and trying to figure out what was next. But as fate would have it they both moved towards their careers with steady determination.
As Cameron climbed the ranks in studying law, Kate was just as fierce in psychology. They were the perfect couple. Kate's parents loved Cameron and praised him for being the ideal partner. Her parents were from Pittsburgh born and raised, while Cameron's parents were originally from the south. Tennessee were their stomping grounds, they often had cookouts and family celebrations. Cameron was firm .... he had a way of dealing with things, he tried to always make sure the family was secure. He had to make sure his wife was not "sinking" that's what he called it.
They owned a decent sized house in
Highland Park, a historic neighborhood district in Lafayette. They settled in eleven years ago and it was their home. Kate would drive west to work , while Cameron's office was located in Indianapolis.
"Do you remember that time we got kicked out of that party back in college ?"Cameron asked. Kate grinned nodding.
" I do that was crazy"
"We were so childish back then" he replied. Kate sat up.
"I'm worried about Ruth".
"I thought everything was fine?"Cameron said nervously.
"She gets tired some days I'm trying to figure all of this out."He held her close. He understood just how serious their situation had become. But his busy life took him away from his daughter, and he couldn't deny that. He was just as guilty as she was. All he knew was things had to get better.
