Chereads / Game of Thrones: The Prophet (COMPLETED) / Chapter 74 - The Final Battle

Chapter 74 - The Final Battle

302 AC, The Wall…

A year after the ascension of the Prophet…

The world regained its peace since the pillar of light which was sighted in all of the worlds. Though nothing changed in the far east, the Western Essos and Westeros was changed from their roots.

The fabulous city of Braavos and those other cities which joined the coalition fell one after another. The first to fall was of course Braavos. Its man-made Titan was not enough to protect the city as it was the Sea Lord himself who opened the doors for the invading army.

The elected Sea Lord was one of the secret believers who were raised by the temple. With a few coercion and blackmail, his position as the new Sea Lord was guaranteed. Although there were many attempts to see him removed, the shadows were able to stop them as they were better than their counterparts in the House of Black and White. Iron Bank was quickly dismantled and all the debts were transferred to the Rogare Bank. Of course, the debts of the Iron Throne was cancelled as a show of good faith between the Seven Kingdoms and the Kingdom of God which was formed with the ascension of the Prophet.

The biggest obstacle to the plans of the Prophet, the residents of House of Black and White, were also hunted down and those who escaped were still being hunted down. Shadows were tracing their every movement and their skills of disguise were useless against them.

The other cities fell not with the intrigue but military force. They were briefly invaded following the fall of Braavos. The hardest to invade was the city of Qohor as they had their own magic against the followers of the Prophet. Though even their magic was useless before the might of His powers.

Thus, the liberation of the Western Essos was completed and even the Dothraki was wary of attacking the western cities. However, the following events that happened in the Westeros stirred up all the cities in Western Essos as soldiers surged from one continent to another.

Following the ascension of the Prophet, a peaceful era came upon Westeros. There was no rebellion happening and even the number of bandits were lowered by a large margin.

In Dorne, the cries for revenge against the Lannisters were dimmed after the Starks slaughtered them to the last and the rest were exiled to Essos. Even the problem of food and water was solved when the ruling family of the region converted to the new religion. The Voice of the Prophet, Sargoso himself came to Dorne and blessed the land. Water erupted from the depth of earth and fruit trees grew larger than ever. This has allowed the new religion to gain a foothold in Dorne and become the dominant religion. However, the biggest news was the marriage of Arianne Martell and King Eddard Stark. They were married after the king returned from his campaign in Vale and the new queen was already pregnant with a child.

In Reach, the change of the ruling family and the end of wars was welcomed warmly. Although there had been a small rebellion in the Oldtown, it was quickly suppressed. However, the most important event in the region was the fate of the Tyrells. All the males of the family were sent to the Wall and after hearing the punishment, the Tyrell matriarch had a heart attack and died in peace. Margaery Tyrell who married two kings and lost her crown twice was married to an old lord in Dorne.

In Stormlands, newly raised lord Argilac Durrandon and his new vassals were already accustomed to their positions. All the governing body was in the hands of the believers. The death of the previous lords in the Strangler's Wedding was a boon to the cause of the believers. Especially with the revenge taken by the new lords, the smallfolk and alike were satisfied with their lords. The marriage of Sansa Stark and Argilac Durrandon did bind them to the Crown like other great houses so they were happy to oblige to the rule of the crown.

In Westerlands, many of the nobles were discontent with their new liege but the fear of the Crown kept them in line. Of course, this fear was also increased with the newly raised nobles and their zealous loyalty. Newly raised ruling family of the region, House Brax, was at its peak of history. The betrothal of Robert Brax and Arya Stark was a boon to their rule and this ensured their loyalty.

There was no need to mention Iron Islands as the noble houses descended from the Grey King were extinct after their little rebellion. So half of the lands were owned by the newly formed Kingdom of God. The smallfolk were happy with this development as they had a constant supply of food and other resources.

Riverlands was hectic after the war, people were popping out and laying their claims on the lands of the massacred houses. Of course, they were put down after the war and Bran Stark stabilized his rule in the region. The biggest obstacle after the war had been the civil war in the Twins. The death of more than half of the Frey family in the Strangler's Wedding and the death of their lord in his privy had caused the downfall of the family. Brothers killed brothers and cousin dismembered cousins. Those who survived were executed on the grounds of kinslaying and only a handful of Freys who were children were left alive. The eldest of them who was away in King's Landing, Olyvar Frey, succeeded the lordly position and swore his loyalty to Bran Stark in Riverrun. Bran's betrothal to one of the daughters of Lord Paramount Rowan of Reach had been welcomed by the new lords of Riverrun. Especially the newly risen lords who were awarded their position due to their contribution to the war were happy regarding the marriage as already new trade routes were being established between the two regions.

The campaign against the mountain clansmen in Vale had been short but deadly. Even their dogs were not spared but the disappearance of their spawns was ignored as it was thought that they could not survive for long by themselves in the mountains. The real problem in Vale was the choice of the new Lord Paramount. Arryn line was buried with the death of Robin Arryn. Of course, there was also Harrold Hardyng but he was killed when he fought a Painted Dog who cut his head cleanly from his body. Arryns of Gulltown was the second choice but their male line mysteriously disappeared during the war against the mountain clansmen and of course, this was also attributed to the mountain clansmen. Only a sixty years old lady remained from Arryns of Gulltown so she was excluded from the line of succession.

Thus, after a brief election amongst the lords, Yohn Royce was elected as the new Lord Paramount with the blessing of the king. His son's firstborn was promised to be fostered at King's Landing and they were to receive monetary help from the Crown for the reconstruction of Vale. As most of their nobility was unharmed, they stayed faithful to the Seven but in the coming generations, it was obvious that they were going to become one of the believers because of the treatment they were going to receive.

The North was hit hard because of the constant wars and the coming winter. House Glover and House Bolton were removed from the annals of history as there were no males left from their lines. Although a bastard from Dreadfort tried to claim the lands and Bolton name, he was executed when he was caught trying to skin a common man alive. Eddard thought hard to whom to award these lands as he needed lords whose loyalty would not be a question. Rickon was his youngest son and he was still too young to rule. This was something many lords would see as a weakness so he decided to award these lands to the only people he could trust, his family.

Willam Stark who died in 226 fighting King-Beyond-the-Wall Raymun Redbeard was avenged by his brother Artos Stark. He had two children named Brandon and Benjen Stark. The brothers were not friendly with each other so they went on their way with the death of their father. One of them became a master of a city in Barrowtown and took the name of Barstark while the other became a master of a city in White Harbour and took the name of Harstark. Eddard decided to raise them as new lords because of their already existing skills and blood ties to him. Barstarks were raised as the new lords of Deepwood Motte while Harstarks was raised as the new lords of Dreadfort. The North was similar to Vale was going to be assimilated slowly as their own liege was already a believer.

However, all of these developments were not as important as the biggest news that came from the Wall. A wight was caught Beyond The Wall and brought to King's Landing after the campaign of King Eddard. Even though the nobles and alike were struck with fear at the news, they still did not want to march the Wall. They argued that the Wall was still standing and these creatures of horror cannot pass so there was no need to march. However, the cold coming from the far north even reached the Riverlands so folk and nobles alike were aware that such a degree of cold that emerged in just a month was not normal. In the end, after two weeks of arguing the kingdoms decided to march to the Wall and make an offence before the cold freeze the fields of Reach.

All kingdoms sent their soldiers to the Wall but the biggest shock came when hundreds of ships sailed to the Eastwatch-by-the-Sea and Essosi men emerged from the ships. The nobles were surprised at their sight but the king welcomed them immediately. The nobles later learned that the wight was sent to Essos to ask for help. And the armies of the Prophet who returned from the liberation of the last city of Western Essos were sent to the Wall on ships.

Hundreds of thousands of men were residing in the Wall and this was definitely going to be the biggest battle the world had ever seen. Westeros and Free Cities were united against a common foe.

However, there was something that they did not know. This was not going to be a war between mortals but Gods...
