Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

I turned around just in time to catch Crystal in my arms. I looked at her in shock.

"We should stop," I said.

"I think we can walk a little longer." Maddie said, not even turning around to look at why I was suggesting a pause. It may have made me a little mad. Just a tiny bit.

"WE NEED TO STOP! NOW!" I yelled. The three friends all turned towards me with similarly shocked faces.

"We need to stop because Crystal fainted."

It was Ayro and Raven who ran over. Maddie just stood there shocked.

"What happened?" Raven asked. "She had some throat issues in the past."

I know Raven is Crystal's best friend, but knowing that much about someone's health history is just odd. I decided we needed a plan. James and I were on the run from the law, ya know, because we escaped prison. Ayro didn't want to deal with people (I think he has social anxiety), Raven said that she was spotted by the cameras at the prison. The only one who could take Crystal into the nearest town is Maddie. I heard something like a waterfall not too far away. I set Crystal on the ground.

"Okay, here's the plan. We'll go to the nearby waterfall. Maddie will take Crystal into town. Ayro, you should help carry her until you reach town, where you will wait until Maddie and Crystal are back, then meet us. And before you ask, no, me, James and Raven can't go because Raven was spotted by prison cameras, and me and James are wanted criminals."

"What waterfall?" Raven asked, giving me a puzzled look.

"Would can't... You can't hear it?" I asked. That just earned another confused look. "Just follow me!"

Ayro looked exasperated; James just silently followed me. Raven looked even more confused and Maddie just looked pissed.

I followed the sound of the waterfall, and after only 10 minutes of walking, we arrived at said waterfall. I don't understand how none of them heard the waterfall earlier, it's not like we were far away.

Maddie

I'm pissed. Not only do I have to take Crystal into town, nobody is coming with me. Ayro carried her until we got to the edge of the forest, then I had to carry her. There was a small medical clinic in town, and it wasn't too difficult to spot. I heard people talking as I passed by. My arms were getting ridiculously tired. Once I got to the clinic, there was a long line of people waiting. I set Crystal down in a waiting chair and went to the front desk.

"My friend fainted and has an issue with her throat. It's kind of an emergency, since she has been out cold for 45 minutes."

There was an older looking lady manning the desk. She gave me an impatient smile. There were two lists to see two different doctors. One was long, while the other only had a few patient names on it.

"What is your friend's name, dear?" She asked, her voice sickly sweet.

"Crystal Cinedae."

After hearing the last name, the woman looked a bit shocked. She put Crystal's name on the short list, and circled the name, putting URGENT in big bold letters. It was underlined multiple times in a way that seemed like it was threatening to rip the paper. I thought it was a bit odd. I decided that it wasn't important right now, and sat down next to Crystal. One of the doctors poked his head out, and nodded at the receptionist. Crystal's name was called, and I picked her up, carrying her into the doctor's office. I told the doctor the symptoms, adding the ones I forgot to tell the receptionist, like how Crystal was coughing up blood earlier.

Crystal was out cold during most of the visit, only faintly fluttering her lashes occasionally. The doctor stuck a strange herb under her nose. After a good 5 seconds, Crystal finally woke up. She paused looking around in confusion. When her eyes landed on me, she seemed to calm down a little bit. I could see something in her eyes, a hint of anger. It seemed like it had been there for some time, but I had been too blind to notice it.
