-Huh? Where am I?
Slight dizziness follows me as I rise from the dank wooden planks of what appears to be a ship. In space. I scratch my unshaven chin as I look around some more. It appears to be a pirate ship of some sort. How did I get here? How am I still breathing?
-Hello mortal! Do not fret, for I'm the one and only deadline god and I will be the one to cleanse you from your sin!
I turn around looking for the source of the voice but it's to no avail. I must be dreaming, right? Yep, I'm probably dreaming, it's fine.
-Sin? What sin?
-The sin of never having turned in anything on time, ever.
-Fair enough.
-Any questions before I begin?
-What's your name, voice inside my head?
-Boris, you should introduce yourself before asking others to do the same, but I'm simply known as the Deadline God.
-Ok, but why a pirate ship?
For some reason, the voice grumbled when I asked this question.
-Because the pirate god just retired making it the only available place and, you know what? No more questions. Let's begin deadline-purgatory!
-No wait, please, can I ask one more question?
Reluctantly, the voice nodded.
-What do I have to do to get clear of my sin and what happens afterwards?
-That's two questions you silly goose, all you have to do is entertain me with the pen and paper that you see before you and you might be able to go home again.
After looking down on the floor I notice several sheets of paper and a pen. I've clearly lost it, haven't I? No, I'm dreaming after all. I'll just pinch myself on the cheek and... Shit. What am I even supposed to do? Draw something?
-Hey, voice inside my head?
-What? Oh right, cleansing. How about you write me a typical tale about a hero's journey with a rock as the main protagonist.
-Are you mad?
-Hey! Don't take that tone with me! You know what? Because of that, the story has to be set on the moon. Oh, and the deadline for the first chapter is 24 hours from now, good luck.
-But I can't, rocks don't talk, don't think and they don't even...
-You better get started if you ever want to get home again, just saying.
