Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: TRANSITION

"What do we do now, Caryn?" Jake asked, as he pulled out his phone to read the other messages, while walking out of the hospital.

"Let's go to UPLB!" Caryn exclaimed, as she rode Jake's car. "Who are you calling?"

"Mikah", Jake replied, while holding his phone to his ear.

"No, don't call her", Caryn warned. "Get in the car and drive, I've got a lot to tell you."

As Jake drove towards Los Banos, Caryn told him all about Mikah. There he found out that Mikah was a witch, who cast a spell on him so that he'd fall inlove with her and do whatever she asks him to. It didn't start out that way though. They were friends and officemates for years before going into a relationship. Mikah's journey into wicca started when her mom died 2 years ago. She became depressed and obsessed with the supernatural that led her to find Ka Pablo in Dumaguete.

"So that's why I don't remember her?" Jake asked, shaking his head.

"Yes, but don't worry, it will all come back to you soon," Caryn said, as they entered the UPLB gate. "Turn right here. Can you see that mint green house? I used to live there."

As Jake looked at the house, he screeched to a stop when he saw a girl emerge from the gate. He was shocked to see someone who looked exactly like Caryn. "You, you have a twin???" He said.

"Just go straight, she might see us." Caryn instructed. As Jake drove up Kanluran road, Caryn told him all about her past and how she met Andres. "As you can see, that body and life was mine. Now I'm free. I am where I'm supposed to be, and so are you."

"Wow!" Jake exclaimed. "So doppelgangers are real too?!"

"Yes. Well, sort of. Normal people just find different ways of explaining or debunking them because they don't know Dewal and the truth behind the world they live in." Caryn replied, matter of factly. "This is what Andres, Lola Pacing and I are trying to make you understand...and believe. Without you, we will fail."

Jake took a deep breath as he parked his car behind the library and asked Caryn, "I need to jump off the bridge now?"

Caryn laughed, "No, silly! You're already in between worlds. What we need now is a passageway. We need to find the gatekeeper first."

Jake and Caryn walked towards the bridge and found a path beside it. As they started their trek down, Jake felt someone watching them and looked to his left. There he saw a figure covered in black lace, just like the one described in Caryn's story. He was about to tell Caryn when the figure darted towards him and grabbed his hand. Before he knew it, he was whisked away deeper into the forest and infront of a huge boulder. He felt his body slammed into it, hearing some bones crack, as he screamed nonstop. He was suddenly in complete darkness when he heard Caryn's voice, "Don't be scared. It's almost done."
