Chapter 60 - Ganga Was Pregnant

At The United States of America...

Uncle Mehra and Aunty Mehra had spent close to two months now in the united states, their only child and son had kidney disease, he was in the theater room for a kidney transplant at the moment.

The doctors over there had tried to treat his illness so that there won't be any need for a kidney transplant. One of his kidney was functioning well while the other one was bad.

But an intern misdiagnosed him and has been given him the wrong treatment, he was being given the treatment meant for another patient, and the other patient was being given the treatment meant for him.

This lead to his other kidney to be affected overtime. When his condition deteriorated and he was not getting better, an experienced doctor then ran some tests all over again on him.

When he discovered the real problem with Uncle Mehra's son, he took over the treatment from the intern doctor. The intern doctor was now on suspension for swapping treatments of patients carelessly.

Both of uncle Mehra's son's kidneys became bad, the son now needed a kidney transplant, his situation could not be salvaged anymore by just treatment. As family, his father volunteered to give him one of his kidneys.

The case of the other patient is also being solved. Currently, uncle Mehra's son is being prepared for surgery. The doctor's ran some tests on uncle Mehra to check if he is fit medically to give his son a kidney. The test results came out positive.

The doctor's brought out some hospital documents and he signed it. He hugged his wife, she cried a little and prayed that the surgery becomes a success. That he should save their son and he should come out well aswell.

The doctor gave them some privacy, after a while he came back to inform Uncle Mehra that it was time for him to get prepared for the surgery.

Ok doctor he said, he then gave his phone to his wife, as he was about to follow the doctor, his phone rang. Excuse me doctor, it's my brother, I really need to pick this call, he said.

Ok Mr. Mehra go ahead, but be brief, you need to get prepared so that we can commence the surgery as soon as possible. We really shouldn't delay anymore, the doctor said.

Ok doctor, uncle Mehra replied and answered his call. As at this time it was 6am in Delhi, India. Hello big brother, he said, hello little brother, Purhab replied.

How is my nephew doing, my sis inlaw and you? Purhab asked. Am fine, sis inlaw is fine but am afraid your nephew is not doing too well, his condition has worsened, am about to donate a kidney to him.

The doctors were about to prepare me for the surgery before you called. I have to go big brother, pray for the success of the surgery. Little brother, all will be well, I will leave you in my prayers, Purhab replied and hunged up the phone.

After he hung up, he told his wife Lakshmi about the situation of things with his brother's son. Don't you think it is time to tell mum and dad about it? Their prayers will also go a long way in helping their grandson recover fast, Lakshmi said.

Lakshmi dear, I don't want them to worry at their old age, it is great at the moment that they now live in Udi village. If they were here with us in the Mehra mansion, they would have found out about it.

Besides my little brother, before he traveled down to the United States with his wife to go meet their son because of his illness, personally asked me not to tell mum and dad about it.

He assured me that when he returns, he will be the one to tell them, by then my nephew would have pulled through and he would be able to complete his studies over there aswell.

And I couldn't tell the kids about the situation if things about their cousin either, if they knew, they would have informed mum and dad about it especially Yuvi, he is a very gullible.

Mum would have detected something is wrong, and she would have been able to get it out of Yuvi, and then she would tell dad. It would worry them alot. I really do not want to stress them out. It is best that things are left this way.

After listening to Purhab, her husband's explanation of things, she came to agree with him and said, ok dear, I agree with you. I will go to the temple later in the day and pray God our nephew to recover soon.

Alright love that would be good, he kissed his wife on her lips, got up from their bed and stated preparing for the day, to go to work at Mehra Conglomerates.

Back in the United States, Uncle Mehra, sighed, gave his phone back to auntie Mehra, his wife and went to the hospital room, the doctors prepared him for the surgery afterwards.

After the doctors prepared him, he was rolled in a stretcher into the theater, the doors were closed and the lights outside of the theater that indicated that a surgery was going on was put on.

Auntie Mehra, stayed outside of the theater, she was restless, she walked from one sit to another, at times, she sat, after a couple of hours, she went to pray in front of the god that was placed in the hospital's mini temple.

Meanwhile at the Karna Mansion in Delhi, India....

Shoria was making sweet love to his wife, Ganga, in the early hours of the morning, he couldn't get enough of her, he would have loved to be cuddled up in bed all day with her but he had work to do.

He had to go to work, especially now that Ganga's best friend was getting married soon. Because of the relationship with Ganga and Sunita, Sunita had her father give the catering contract to Shoria.

Shoria had already sent some of his staffs at White Chillies in Delhi to go join his staffs at White Chillies in Bombay. The wedding was not a small one, he needed that much man power to pull off the catering contract for the wedding.

He had important clients to attend to in Delhi, he was planning to take Ganga to Bombay after he attended to the important client here in Delhi.

By his calculations, if he stops making love to Ganga and head to work now, he should be done that afternoon, and they would get to Bombay at night.

Ganga I really want to spend some more time with you but I need to prepare and rush off to work now, I know it's so early, and I usually go to work by 8am but you know I have business to attend to and we have to travel to Bombay today, we don't want to be too late.

Ganga kissed shoria deeply and passionately and said, I know love, you really work very hard, am happy you a hard working man. Off you go now, don't keep your client waiting.

Thanks love, he kissed her on her lips as if his life depended on her lips, he then got up and went to the bathroom, Ganga laid lazily on the bed and went back.

Shoria took his bath quickly, came out of his bathroom and got dressed, before he left the room, he kissed Ganga and told her not to sleep too much, that she should be ready when he gets back from work in the afternoon. She replied ok love in her sleep, Shoria left the room and went downstairs for breakfast.

His mum was a kind woman, she did not reprimand Ganga, Shoria's wife for still sleeping at that time and not helping out in the kitchen to prepare meals like the other wives in the house do.

Ganga was pregnant, she was going to be a grandmother for the second time, she understood and encouraged Ganga not to stress herself and rest more often.

Shoria's elder brother and his wife already had a daughter while Shoria and his wife were going to be parents soon, she only had two sons. The other little children in the house where children of her husband's brothers. Her husband's sister was married and was not living in the Karna Mansion with them.

Back in the United States....

It had been a very long time, close to four hours now, auntie Mehra did not even eat anything, she was worried for her husband and son.

She had prayed to the goddess, she was now waiting outside of the theater room. She got tired of standing, she sat down, looked up, the light indicating that a surgery was going on at the moment was still on.

After a couple of more hours, she looked at the time, it had been 7 hours since the surgery started. She was now very hungry and exhausted but she still refused to eat.

Her clothes were very rumpled, she had squeezed the sari that she wore a couple of times, her hands trembled at times, she almost cried at times but there was one thing she did, she did not loose hope.

She had hope that her husband and son will be come out fine, she just didn't know when the surgery will be over and when they would recover quickly.

Some nurses who saw her in her state encouraged her that all will be well that the best kidney surgeon is the one handling the surgery for her husband and son. She thanked the nurses, then the nurses went ahead with their duties in the hospital.

The lights outside of the theater room door went off, it had been ten hours of surgery, and the surgery had finally ended. The surgeon came out of the theater room.

As soon as auntie Mehra saw him, she ran to him and asked him how her husband and son were doing. He looked at her with a long face. The surgery was a success for your son but am sorry madam, your husband did not make it.

His heart became weak during the surgery, we tried all we could, but we could not resuscitate him. Am sorry madam, please take heart.

The surgeon left her immediately after breaking the good and bad news to her. Auntie Mehra cried and fell back into the chair. Some nurses rolled out her husband's body outside of the theater.

As they were pushing his body to take him to the morgue, she stood up from the chair and ran to him, lied on him and called his name for him to wake up. The nurses consoled her.

She followed her husband's body until he was put into the freezer. She continued to cry, she then went back to check on her son. Her son had been moved away from the theater to recuperate.

She was told by the doctor that she could not see him now, when he wakes up, she would be allowed to see him. She had stopped crying and was now very sober now.
