Puzzled, he replied " 2121"
My heart stopped. I started to feel dizzy....100 years. I was transported a HUNDRED YEARS into the future!? That's so crazy. All I did was open a book.
Thinking back, the warning letter had also said there was no return.
' Which means I'm stuck here...' I didn't know what to make of this.
"I don't understand, was there no way to fight against them? Earth had to have fought with their all even if we had a slim chance of winning?" asked genuinely confused.
Earth should have had a ton of advanced technological advancement in the past 100 years. Before I left, the Government was talking about further Robot Enhancements and their dexterities not to mention talks of the New Wave Nuclear Power. These advancements should have been pursued even more in the last century.
" Yes, at first we tried shooting nuclear-guided robots into space to attack them but their technologies were way more advanced than us. Every nuclear we sent their way they disintegrated it with only a laser beam. Next, the UN decided to halt all actions of violence against them and talk it out but the aliens didn't think there was anything to talk about. They were the superior race and they had every weapon and means to destroy earth in days." he said emotionlessly as a look of tiredness crossed his face.
We sat silently recalling all that was said.
" I-I have nowhere to go and I'm now afraid that if I go out I'll be captured. Please help me." I asked pleadingly.
I knew my best chance of surviving laid with this man. I knew nothing of this future world and the outside world wasn't safe. I didn't know what id do if he'd reject me.
He looked at me, and I could see he meant me no harm. He rubbed his bearded face and sighed,
" Ok kid. You can stay. But if you don't want to be captured and raised like farm animals you had better stay inside." I nodded, knowing he was saying all this for my own good.
" I have a son, about the same age as you. He's out getting food, should be back in a bit."
I nodded.
" Use your words, there's enough silence to go around the longer you stick around here."
"Yes, um? What do I call you sir?"
Stunned, we just realized we didn't know each other's names.
" Erm-, my name is Erwin, my boys' name is Caleb."
I made an acknowledging ' oh' sound.
" And yours?"
" Oh sorry, my name is Amelie Williams. A pleasure to meet you." I smiled politely.
he looked at me and turned around taking off his jacket.
"En, follow me"
I followed without asking.
He took me around the house and showed me where I was to stay. They didn't have any more spare rooms so he said I should stay in his son's room and that his son would sleep in the living room.
I stayed silent because I had no right to reject anything. I calmly nodded and he continued showing me the house.
To be honest. you couldn't really call it a house. The rooms were small and the ceiling was low. Apparently, when the aliens invaded he had already started building this secret hideout because he always had a hunch that something might happen in the future.
And it did.
Aliens invaded, took his wife and child and left the whole world hiding and afraid.
We sat in the living room again and he continued recounting what happened when the Nimmeans first came.
" After they took the women, they started sending down drones down to earth. Everyone hid from them, afraid that they would do more than take our women. However, there were some brave or should I say foolish ones that challenge the drones.
Destroying them whenever they saw an opportunity. The drones then weren't much. I believe they were mainly for surveillance, to see if there were any more women.
At first, the Nimmeans didn't respond they just observed from up in their space ships. But this caused some people to get complacent and reckless. They formed a rebellion and destroyed drones all over. The Nimmeans patience finally ceased after a month. They sent scores of androids down and demolished any resistance across the world. My brother was one of the few that was killed.
Our mother, his wife, and his 7-year-old daughter were taken. The androids disintegrated him and nothing was left after they were finished." he sighed, as grieved look crossed his face.
" I'm sorry for your loss," I said quietly.
"En" he remained silent.
Not long after, there was a loud sound coming from outside. There were a lot of footsteps and shouts. Erwin immediately grabbed hold of his shotgun beneath the chair he was sitting on and faced it to the door. I backed away near Erwin, scared.
A little while later, there was a noise outside and the door started to open. A tall person stepped through.
I heard Erwin sigh and put down his gun.
I figured that the person was his son whom he mentioned earlier.
The man turned around and after hearing the sigh. He greeted his dad and glanced at me. His eyes widened slightly.
" Who are you?"
