Gabriel opened his eyes, eager to see Jane. Yet was he saw was an old oak door, in a bleak room. He looked around but the room was empty. Just him. He cautiously stepped towards the door, he didn't even realise he felt no pain anymore, he was too focused on what was behind it. As he placed his hand on the handle and pushed the door open slowly he glimpsed inside. He saw a young boy, with dark brown hair crying in the corner of the room, his face obscured. But before he could take another step forward, a hand grabbed his shoulder, pulling him back. The force threw Gabriel backwards to the floor, and as the door slammed shut Myers appeared in front of him. His face no longer resembling Gabriel whatsoever. Blonde hair, green eyes, and a long face. He donned the leather jacket Gabriel had seen him in before and a look of hatred on his face. "No, you shouldn't be here." He would say, as his eyes turned to dark orange. His whole figure bursting into blinding fire and as Gabriel covered his eyes he heard Jane.
"Wake up please, please Gabriel. I can't lose you," there would be a pause, "I love you. I'm so sorry, I love you." The voice of Jane drew the fallen angel to uncover his eyes, and as he blinked he saw her. Sitting beside his hospital bed, her head in her hands. Gabriel looked around, he was in a private hospital room. The light shining in from the window illuminated the room, and there was a distinct beeping as the machines monitored his body. Dowling stood near the door, a sympathetic look on his face, but as his eyes met Gabriel's he smiled. "Captain." Gabriel would say turning his attention who instantly looked up. Her eyes puffy, and face red as a look of pure joy obscured her face. "Gabe. Thank the lord, although we'd better not. He's the one that got you in this mess," She'd say catching herself mid sentence. The fallen angel smiled softly, "Yes, he gets quite enough credit as it stands," He'd say, pushing himself up to a sitting position, much to the objections of everyone in the room.
Dowling would move closer, "Gabriel, in the ambulance. I was telling you abou-" he would begin, but he was cut off by Gabriel, "I don't remember either. Somethings blocking it," He would say, and Dowling would nod his head, clearly about to say the same thing. Jane would sigh, "Yes but that doesn't matter now. All that matters is that you're awake. It's been so long we weren't sure if you would" She would say with a smile on her face which quickly dropped when she was Gabriel's reaction. A look of dread. "How long?" He would say looking at them both. Before all this he was already short on time, with only a couple weeks before his father's plan came into effect. But now? For all he knew it was too late.
"3 days, it's been 3 long days," Dowling would say as he peered at Gabriel curiously. "The summer solstice is in 5 days," He suddenly said realising, "Something's going down huh?" Dowling would say with a slight tinge of fear, which was amplified by Gabriel's slight nod. "Something big, I need to see those pages Stuart." The watcher would say as he slid out of the bed without much effort. It was then that he realised the pain was gone. The looks of Dowling and Jane reaffirmed his belief that neither of them had caused this, so he slowly lifted up his top, hoping to see the conditions of the scars he had after his fight. But there were none. No damage whatsoever. Only very powerful beings could heal damage from Azrael's blade, and Gabriel had a feeling it was Myers. He reached out in his thoughts for Myers, hoping to ask him when he was suddenly overcome by a loud ringing sound. He cried out in pain and covered his ears. Only it left as quickly as it came.
"Gabriel? Are you okay?" Jane said running to his side, and Gabriel realised quickly. Only he had heard it, to them, it probably looked like he was getting attacked. "I'm fine, just some...pain I wasn't expecting." The fallen angel would say with a smile, as he moved to his belongings. Jane looked over at Dowling who shook his head. The watcher paid little attention however, he moved over to his clothes, pulling off the hospital dressing gown as he did. "Woah okay, little warning next time," Dowling would say doing a 180 spin, before looking over at Jane, who once realising she was staring did the same. "Oh, you're clothes were pretty bloody, I brought some of my spares for you" Dowling would say suddenly and Gabriel would reply in thanks. He dressed quickly into the jeans and t-shirt Dowling had brought him. The t-shirt clearly being a size to small for him but the fallen angel didn't really mind. He turned around, rolling up the sleeves on the black t-shirt as he did. "There we go, Stuart lead the way."
They exited the room quickly and moved down the hospital, there was some resistance from the medical staff but Jane's status as a police captain moved the proceedings along quickly. She stayed by Gabriel the whole time, insisting on it in fact, in case something were to happen. When they got outside Dowling took them over to his motorbike before getting on it. "You'll have to follow, sorry." He would say pointing behind him, both Jane's car and the motorbike Gabriel got were standing there. Dowling threw the bike's keys at the fallen angel. "She handles like a beauty, where'd you get her?" He asked as he brought out his helmet, "A farmer" Gabriel replied with a smile as he moved towards it. Jane followed closely behind grabbing his arm, "Nope, you're riding with me," Her eyes showed slight fear, and Gabriel chuckled softly. "Come on Captain, my ride's quicker, or don't you trust me?" He would say pulling her to the motorbike. She protested slightly but as he climbed on she sighed softly, "If you get us killed I swear.."
She climbed on behind Gabriel, her hands unsure of where to go, the fallen angel took initiative taking her hands and wrapping them around his waist. "Oh, oh okay" She'd say as she cleared her throat. Dowling rolled around next to them and passed Jane a helmet. "There, for safety. Though that Harley handles like butter you'll be fine." He'd say offering a light blue helmet to her, which she'd quickly put on, her hands wrapping back around Gabriel confidently, who nodded at Dowling. As Dowling rode of, Gabriel revved his own bike pulling out quickly behind him, a squeal exited Jane's mouth as a result. As they followed Stuart through the winding traffic of New York they were silent, not saying a word, or making much of a sound apart from Jane's sudden squeals or intakes of breath, as they narrowly rode past cars. "Captain, back at the hospital. What you said...about" Gabriel began, as they slowed to a stop at a red light, "You heard? Oh," Gabriel smiled slightly before continuing.
He had of course heard her proclaim her love for him, and it wasn't the first time either. She had nearly said it when he called her upon his return to Earth. Thinking back even further Gabriel could recall many times it was quite obvious how she felt. Though at that time his lack of emotions had blinded him, now he could see it with a clearer picture. He knew how she felt, he didn't know how he felt about that though. Emotions were new to him, and whilst simple ones like happiness and sadness, were easy to feel. Love. Love was hard to understand, even now. So he decided in that moment to save her and him embarrassment. "Yes, you saying I should wake up. It helped thank you" He would say as he revved the engine, and pulled round the corner after the detective. There was a sigh of relief from Jane, "That. Right, yes of course. I'm glad it helped Gabe."
They rode in silence again, squeezing past traffic, making several left and right turns before they made it to their destination. What seemed to be another abandoned warehouse, several blocks from the police station. As they pulled up Dowling was already of his bike and waiting, Jane took off her helmet, desperately trying to sort out her hair as she gave him it back. Gabriel on the other hand looked around before spotting an old rusted sign. 'Revere's Silversmiths' it read, a large hammer drawn on, but what was more intriguing was the small freemasonry symbol hidden within the hammer's handle. "Subtle." Gabriel said as Dowling chuckled. leading them towards the door and knocking. There was a slight shuffling behind the door before a voice spoke out. "Qui ingredi volunt tesseram requirunt" The voice was muffled slightly by the door but it was clear the speaker had in-depth knowledge of the Latin tongue.
Dowling swore silently, "I forgot, Master Masons are meeting today. Fellows aren't allowed and he's asking for a Master Mason Password." He looked defeated, and Jane gave eyed him up slowly. "Still can't get used to it, a freemason, all these years." this caused Dowling to smile slightly. The man behind the door continued. "Nullam password, non viscus" Dowling turned to speak but Gabriel nodded, "Yeah I got it, no password no entry. Right." He stepped forward briskly, knocking on the door, he waited for the man to again repeat the request for a password before replying, "Angelus qui cecidit." There was a slight pause, Dowling looked over at Gabriel with a raised eyebrow. "Told you I knew Paul Revere." He said simply as the door slid open to reveal the man behind it. He was an young man in his thirties with dark brown hair and a short beard. "Sorry, it took a while to check out that passphrase....Gabriel, welcome," He would say stepping to the side, "Dowling's and this women is with you I assume?" He would say and the angel would nod stepping into the boundaries of the lodge he heard the high pitched ringing again, this time louder and he fell to the floor.
They all looked at him, he groaned painfully as it got louder and louder, blocking out all sound. Jane and Dowling looked in terror as he keeled over in pain, and the sound of his pain had drawn a few Master Masons out from the other room. They watched as he screamed out suddenly. A long. Painful. Scream. Before simply standing up like nothing happened. He looked around at the others, staring at him. "Sorry, I'm sure that was positively terrifying," He would say with a smirk, his voice more lazy then it was before. He looked around at Jane and Dowling, who were watching him with concerned looks. The masons seemed to know something was wrong as they all slowly backed up, the one at the door urging Jane and Dowling to do the same. Gabriel did a spin as he looked at them all, then down at his hands, which he inspected carefully. Suddenly, he'd break the silence with a small laugh, "Oh right, you guys don't know what's going on. Let me explain." He faced them all as he blinked, his eyes turning dark orange, and flaming wings erupting from his back. "Gabriel is taking a nap. I am Foiros, the burning flame of Order." Foiros' voice was dark and bellowing, and yet somehow also almost a whisper. "Fear me."
