Chapter 43 - Ch. 43: Greetings

I thought over the information Kovin relayed before waving my hand nonchalantly, "Continue your report."

"Certainly m'lord. I'm still unsure as to why she came to the Empire in the first place but it may have something to do with the hatred she has for you. She did mention that you might be the 'key' to getting her race back on track. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I assumed it was rhetorical."

'Hmm, her race is going extinct. Perhaps she thinks that the Empire could help?' I couldn't place my finger on it, but it seemed rather odd. It didn't matter too much at the moment though; it's not like she was going anywhere for the time being. Well, unless she died in battle . . . Then it really wouldn't matter.

I was interrupted from my thoughts as Kovin continued, "As for her little skill, I'm pretty certain she isn't aware of what she's doing. The lackey Richie was warned before they left Eurosia not to allow her to get riled up by men, so that has to have something to do with it. Apparently her skill is uncontrollable when she's upset or rather enraged. I was able to get her in that state at one point, and when questioned she had no idea what I was talking about. Thankfully I wasn't susceptible - you were correct m'lord that since I was on guard, it was not effective."

I nodded my head. 'Just as I thought.' Although if she's not aware of it, that posed more questions as to why. Was this a skill that Eurosian's were born with? Perhaps I could gather more information, but it'd be useless asking her. I could just browse the library in more detail when I got back to the palace.

"Has it caused any issues with the army?" I questioned. So long as it wasn't a concern, I didn't mind since she didn't know what she was doing. It'd be a different story entirely if she was aware and used her ability to her advantage - that could prove quite dangerous.

"Not particularly. She keeps her temper cool for the most part and its only occasionally that she gets enraged - unless she gets upset in battle. At that point I suppose it's rather beneficial and gives us an advantage . . . the opponent dies before realizing what happened anyway. The only person who she regularly gets upset with is her lackey and he seems completely unaware of what's happening. Maybe because they are related, that's why it has no effect."

"Perhaps. Just keep an eye on her in the future. If she happens to gain awareness, I want to know immediately. Also, I would like full written reports from now on at a steady pace since she has proven resilient these first few months."

"Understood m'lord." Kovin bowed his head. I mulled over the information feeling pretty pleased. Most of my assumptions were correct and I was now feeling quite comfortable in choosing her as a stepping stone of my plan. She was merciful . . . which was something that my empire was in dire need of. I could definitely use that to my advantage.

At that moment, a guard outside the tent requested entrance. The guard was a part of the small entourage that I brought with me who immediately kneeled in my presence, "M'Lord, the Zantark Elders are requesting an audience with the Bodach leaders for a banquet. Their messenger is with the Champion as we speak and they are currently unaware of our presence here . . . how do you wish to proceed?"

My eyes gleamed with untold mirth, "By greeting my Champion of course."

We walked through the camp, which caused a minor uproar due to it being a while since my soldiers last saw me. I politely nodded at the shouts of enthusiasm and cheering showing honor to their Crown Prince. We made our way to Ezran's tent just as a small pasty looking fellow came flying out of the entrance onto the ground at our feet. The young fellow jeered perversely as he struggled to get up. Shouting could be heard from the tent as Ezran suddenly appeared before us, seemingly enraged with the pervy looking guy below.

"Do you honestly think that I would WEAR something like that?!" Ezran bellowed, honey-green eyes blazing with fire.

Her lackey was hanging on to her elbow, attempting to soothe her, "Ezzie calm your tits. He might be the ugliest little perv I've ever seen, but don't kill the poor guy. He's just a messenger."

I closed my eyes for a moment and inhaled deeply, inwardly shaking my head at such an unpredictable sight. The way the two Eurosians talked to one another was highly unique and would baffle any moral man.

Kovin came forward assessing the situation, and his sharp black eyes looked to Ezran, "What is the meaning of this?"

That's when she took notice of our arrival, causing her to immediately go white in the face upon seeing me standing there.

"What are YOU doing here?" She gasped.

I chose to ignore that while narrowing my eyes at the little messenger who had just scrambled to his feet. Noticing my royal insignia, he bowed deeply and with a glint in his eye proceeded to explain, "Your highness, I am here to deliver a token of our appreciation for the Lady Champion gracing us with her presence. We are so humbled to have her come by in the midst of your campaign and wished to provide her with our most sacred attire for her to wear at the banquet. However M'Lady seems to be somewhat displeased with our traditions . . ." His raspy voice weaved a tale as he held the garb forward for brief examination. It could barely be classified as a dress, more like a few ribbons of material strewn together. From what I could tell, the wearer would be exposing quite a bit of skin, which is probably what prompted the young lad's flying fiasco.

I nodded in seeming approval, "We are most pleased that your Elders favor my Champion so graciously." I looked back at Ezran's terror stricken face and smirked, "I'm certain that the Lady and her manservant can handle a simple task such as this?"

Ezran regained her composure as a brief light of understanding flicked within those almond shaped eyes. "Certainly," she spat, grabbing for the bundle of clothes and quickly turning to enter her tent once more with Richie trailing behind. It was like she couldn't leave my sight fast enough, which nearly granted a chuckle however I refrained and coughed instead.

"Go tell your Elders that we are anxiously awaiting a most pleasant reception tonight and to please make room for one more. I know I am looking forward to the entertainment especially."

The messenger bowed deeply once more and took off toward the palace. My eyes sparkled with humor for the first time in ages, 'This might be more fun than I thought.'
