Carson couldn't get the image of Ivy's tearful, disbelievingly hopeful face out of his head from when Matthew managed to find the right electromagnetic frequency to mute her telepathy. He spent the rest of the break researching, buying parts, and tinkering but didn't make much headway before school started again and he was back to drowning in homework.
He was absolutely determined to finish this before going off to college but he had no idea if he would be able to finish in time with all that he had to do. On top of all of his homework there were still Key Club and Academic Decathlon activities.
Cursing himself for biting off more than he could chew, he forced himself forward in a haze of exhaustion. He was so worn out that he didn't have to try and control his thoughts in front of Ivy like he had over the summer. He didn't have the energy to worry about romance right now.
