Falling asleep was always difficult but staying asleep was less so because people tended to think less in the middle of the night, anyway. Dream thoughts were somehow more muted than awake thoughts so there was no loud sudden noise to wake Ivy up.
When she was unconscious in the hospital her brain scans still registered her auditory cortex being in pain. Her power was still working even though she wasn't aware of it because she was out cold.
"Interesting! That might actually help me," Carson informed her.
"Help you how?"
"Trying to invent something to turn your telepathy off. If it works sort of like your ears do that makes me hopeful that I can reverse engineer some hearing aids. Those amplify sound so I would need to find a way to make them reduce it.
