Chapter 3 - Chapter Three: Take Down

Morning came with a new dose of chaos. The door had been broken and Nami's new skill activated, causing her to dodge flying debris out of her sleep.

It wasn't what she expected, however. There were no men in green and brown standard military attire. Instead, it was teenagers around her age, fighting.

"What the h-" was what she managed to get out, before another piece of wood flew at her.

"Sorry," Josh apologized. "I was trying to make it stop, but I think it only works on things that's alive. That sucks, wish I phoebe used it to stop some bullets."

"Maybe not do that while we're trying to hide from men with guns," Nami grits out. "Are you all trying to get us killed?"

"I know what you're saying, but I think this will be good at helping us get off the base. A lot of us woke up with these strange powers. I was sleep, and started having a nightmare, and heard this voice in my head. Next thing you know, I was floating in the air. We have freaking superpowers!" Casey responds excitedly. "My brother can make people stop moving, and I can fly. This is awesome!"

Nami felt sick. It was if they got so drunk off this new power, they forgot about the death of their families.

*Was this the affect of the aliens, or is this what happens when humans get their hands on too much power?* She thought to herself.

"Have you all-! You know what, never mind," Nami says.

"Can we talk for a second?" Daniel asks, but it was more like a command.

"What?" She replies when they're in a private corner.

"I get your frustration, but they're kids. Yelling won't help."

"Yeah, well I'm a kid too. I'm only seventeen, but, they decided to follow me, not the other way around. I'm not gonna be responsible for their deaths. I just lost my little brother. I am not about to watch them die too!"

Daniel's eyes softened a bit, but before he could say anything, a loud rumble shook the ground, and Nami's detect skill activated.

"We've gotta go!"

Like clockwork, the glass in one of the windows shattered, gas pouring out of a canister, followed by yet another.

"Alright, y'all heard her, lets move!" Daniel shouted above the screaming.

Like soldiers in an army, the screaming children stopped, and took off toward Nami and Daniel as they led them through the house, and out the back.

"Stop right where you are!"

They froze a bit as everyone instinctively looked at Josh.

"No! You stop!" Josh screamed. His stutter no longer and issue, so long as he kept his fear at bay.

As they did the day before, the men standing before them froze, and the young group took off towards the entrance-exit of the base. However, more personnel stood, waiting for their arrival.

"You're not going anywhere," One of them shouted.

Josh tried his new ability once more, screaming for them to stop, to no avail.

"Why is he still moving?" Casey asked, fear on her face.

"Let me try," Chester stepped up. He was fourteen years old, and waiting to use his new power. "This is how you really freeze somebody."

With a blow of his breath, Chester changed the temperature in the surrounding area, specifically around their pursuers. Frost began to build on their skin, until they were unable to move another inch.

"Let's move," Daniel shouted to the group, and they all ran.

As they ran, they couldn't really begin to think where they would go, but Nami had a thought.

*Intellectual, you think you can guide me to where the meteor landed?*

"Yes, that is possible."

With a grin, Nami ran ahead of the group, leading the way to more answers. She was sure government agents would be there, but it was the only though she currently had.

"New Skill Unlocked: Speed, Skill Level 2. Level upgrade available. Unlocked skills: Dodge, Escape, Speed, and Detect. What skill would you like to upgrade?"

*Escape*

"Upgrade complete. Escape skill now level four."

They continued to run like that for at least twenty minutes, before finally arriving to a massive crater in the ground.

"Holy crap," Chester commented, because indeed, up ahead were government agents in hazmat suits, swarming about the hole in the ground.

"We may have to wait a bit..." Josh thought aloud.

"No way, I have an idea."

Everyone turned to Daniel, wondering what could he possible have in mind for ten teenagers to get inside of that giant pit, with a hundred military men and women on duty.

"Just one question I have, Nami. What exactly is your power?"

Nami took a moment to explain to everyone, what the Intellectual told her.

"That's an interesting ability. Your detect ability is especially useful. Okay, so here's what's gonna happen. There's at least one hundred people over there. There's only ten of us. I figure we split into groups of two, we can match up people with abilities that compliment one another, we can take them out easy.

Nami and Chester will be the first group. With her detect ability, mixed with his freeze ability, getting through that maze of muscle will be doable. Josh, you're with me. Your time stop, mixed with my super strength, we would make a pretty epic team. And if by some chance, you need to cool down, I'll be able to protect us for a time.

Jace, you're with Amelia. With your lullaby, and your sister's nightmare power, they'll be knocked out for quite sometime, and if they wake up, they'll be too freaked out to do anything. Casey, you're with Genesis. You still haven't mastered your flight, and with Genesis' gravity, she'll be able to help you control yourself better, and weigh down anyone coming at you. Also very useful when dodging bullets.

Last, but not least, Dustin and Dillon. You're going to cause a distraction. Your jobs are to destroy their equipment with your attract and repel abilities. When they come at you, combine your powers, just enough to knock them out. Any questions?"

With a chorus of "no's" Daniel smiled.

"Good. Time for the takedown."
