She can only hear the ticking sound coming from an old ceiling fan. She can't stop herself from thinking that this maybe how she will end everything. Without background music like what she imagined 2 nights ago. She can still remember how it all started.
It was Sunday. Lisa and her bestfriend Jisoo decided to just spend the entire day in the latter's room. WIFI and airconditioning were enough to endure the boredom of their day. They talked yes, but both were hooked with their phones checking anything in the internet when all of the sudden, Jisoo spoke and asked about drinking. She knows Lisa, she doesn't have to ask twice.
"Sure! But I'm broke as fuck..." Lisa said embarrasingly. "I'll take care of it. Anyways, it's not gonna be that much since it's only for 2 bottles. I'll manage." Jisoo reassuringly stated. Lisa thought it was something her bestfriend needs to adjust from her school allowance and it saddened her knowing she needs to eat less or skip lunch during her duty in the hospital. Jisoo is still on her last year studying medicine. Lisa always think that her bestfriend is undeniably smart but the reason behind why Jisoo wanted to be a doctor is something beyond her. I want to help people. I don't care if I will be a physician in a small clinic..in a small town..even it will not pay me that much. I want to be a doctor not because I wanna be rich but to help. As Lisa recalls when she asked Jisoo the night after their highschool graduation.
She knows this drinking session will take not only 2 bottles because there's something wrong with Jisoo, the way her eyes showed uncertainty when she blurted about drinking.
"I know something's up, we're ok just chilling here but why all of the sudden you want to.."
"Hey, it's not like we're gonna be wasted today, as I've said only 2 botts.."
"Is that like an indirect proposition? Coz I'm up for it! Anyways, is there a problem? Is it about Jennie?" Lisa said plainly, she doesn't want to sound she's prying.
"Come on, get your lazy ass and let's go to the store. I'll tell you about it after the 3rd bottle.." Jisoo smirked while heading out of the room.
"I knew it. Two bottles your ass, bitch!" as she stand up and running towards the door.
Lisa knew it. It's another love crisis for her bestfriend. Jisoo and Jennie been dating for 3 years now. It was a rough and bumpy ride, Lisa thought but if she will be honest to herself, her friend's relationship is the most toxic she ever witnessed even with her past partners. Yes. Both of them are sliders. It was an inside joke on how they described their sexuality. Them and most of their friends are fuckheads sliding on the rainbow.
They ended up buying 6 bottles, but Jisoo didn't say that it would be just an ordinary size. One liter of each bottle and true to herself, Jisoo started spilling out after they opened the 3rd liter of strong beer.
"So, Jennie's with that Park Chaeyoung-girl in Japan? I thought she just like to have a break from work hence why she needs to go solo?" Lisa asked after she gulped her shot.
"I don't know man, I can't get hold of her. It is infuriating! She keeps on doing these shits.." sighed Jisoo.
"Don't push it, wait until she gets back here. She'll be here by tomorrow right?"
"Yeah. I just don't like this feeling. It's consuming me. I feel so stupid. That's why whenever I see her posts in Instagram, I knew something was weird. She was alone but those photos are not selfies. Like somehow she managed to ask a random stranger to take her picture. I know her, that motherfucker is too shy to even ask for directions if she's lost or what, let alone asking a random person to take her photos in multiple situations."
Lisa was absolutely stunned. "Whoa! You went 0 to 100 word per second. Chill man! You're not certain yet. You know sometimes we can be bold with strangers."
"Yeah right, coming from someone who does one night stands." Jisoo counters.
"Gee, girl I'm not the enemy here. Stop attacking me. I'm on your side. I was just trying to be someone who's looking on a larger picture here. But knowing Jennie's history, it might be true. She can be really a pain in the ass. And A-straight liar."
Jisoo bursted in thunder-like laugh. Lisa thought is the alcohol starting to kicks in but they were only on their 3rd bottle? And she's sure her bestfriend is a fish when it comes to drinking.
"When you put straight and liar in one statement about Jennie, my mind just went overboard. For sure she is a fucking liar but straight? She'll probably fuck a pole with a mini-skirt."
"Dang. Your comprehesion is unbelivable. My point is.. but ok, fuck yeah you're right it doesn't add up putting the word straight in a sentence especially towards your girlfriend." Lisa said while pouring the beer in her glass. "Hey, look Irene just posted on IG, let's ask her if she want to join us wallowing in your misery." Lisa asked Jisoo when she suddenly went mute.
"Send her a message then." Then her phone went off. "Who's that?" Lisa didn't look up while typing something on her phone.
"Seulgi. I just wanted another point of view about this fuckhead. Coz yours is not effective. Worst adviser ever." Jisoo said jokingly.
"Hey, I haven't given you any advice yet. As if, you listen anyways. And I'm only here for the free beers bitch." as Lisa said while laughing.
"I know. parasite...uhmm hello what's up my favorite bitch of an ex!" She excitedly greet the person on the other line.
Seulgi was Jisoo's girlfriend in high school. They thought it was love but it ends up that it was just the turning point in Jisoo's life that she is into girls. Jisoo's family is very traditional and when she came out on her first year in college while being with Seulgi, Jisoo's family cut her off thus she hit the rock bottom where she needs to support herself on her studies. During the hiatus from her family, both of them decided to end their relationship and as for Lisa surprised, they remained friends. Jisoo is working as a nurse assistant in a hospice while she continue in studying up until now, now that she's on her last semester. Lisa could have not been more proud of her bestfriend aside from the time she started seeing Jennie 3 years ago. Jennie was a nurse on the same hospice when they started dating and after 2 years she transferred to a hospital as a Dialysis Nurse. As she witnessed Jisoo fell so hard with the cat-eyed beauty she also knows that her bestfriend is too good for Jennie.
Jisoo put Seulgi on the speakerphone and started blabbering and asking about what's exactly happened. Jisoo and Seulgi continue their talk in plotting how they will catch the cat on the spot when a buzzing sound resonated from Lisa's phone. She immediately checked it and a huge grin displays on her face.
"Hey, Irene-unnie said she'll come here after her dentist appointment. Within the next 2 hours. She'll just book an Uber." Lisa interrupted the two discussing their bust plan against Jennie.
"Really, it will be expensive for sure. Who can blame her? We're the best company when we are drinking. Remember when you got your ass wasted when we went out of town? Man, Irene really made you her personal entertainment that night!" as Jisoo reminisced their escapade 2 weeks ago.
"I know I saw the pictures, too bad I can't remember" as Lisa pouted.
After 6 liters of beer the bestfriends decided to take a break until Irene arrives. They were just lying on their stomach when Lisa decided to break the silence.
"We don't have I mean you can't buy beers anymore you might end up starving during your duty and I don't have any to spare, how are we going to continue when Irene-unnie's here?"
"I have a a bottle of Bacardi downstairs. That will do, knowing Irene she likes her poison hard and strong." Jisoo said nonchalantly.
"Are you sure? We already had beers..."
"Who put up the rule that you can't have hard alcohol after beers, am just wondering..." Jisoo asked.
"No one, I guess this gonna be a long night then." Lisa said accompanied with big yawn.
Irene texted them that she's already around the corner but wasn't sure where to go. Both of them lazily got their butts up to pick up Irene. Once reached Jisoo's apartment after grabbing the bottle of Bacardi and 2 cokes they went upstairs and settled themselves comfortably.
"So...what's up bitches.." Irene started.
"Old ceiling which Jisoo needs to change coz it will collapse anytime like her relationshit with the girlfriend." Lisa said while batting her eyelashes to Jisoo.
"Oh, you're still here Lisa? Thought you went home already."
"Hahaha is that your comeback? Man you're rusty." as the latter countered.
"Enough with it, I didn't pay 800 bucks for taxi just to witness 2 kids bickering. But Lisa, that was good." as Irene sternly looked at Jisoo while Lisa smiles like a chesire cat. A little blush tinted as she was acknowledged by her all-time crush. Secret-crush.
Irene just rolled her eyes and went back to her question this time directly towards Jisoo.
"So the Liar lies again, what's new? Ah this time, she brought her lying ass overseas together with the itch-girl huh? All the way to Japan. Wow, talk about leveling up the cheating, man."
Lisa knew that this must be true but still, hurt is evident in Jisoo's eyes. She was about to say something light when Jisoo beats her to it.
"Yes, you're right, she always lies but I just can't let her go. I just love her so much and it's killing me."
"Love don't kill people but lies. Lies are destructive. Look at you, it's destroying you." Irene took a swig straight from the bottle and drank her coke.
"I mean, I know she's lying! She never confirms but she's stupid and I always catching her lying through her teeth. But everytime I confronts her, I am the one who ends up begging for her to stay. I'm stupidier. Is that even a word!? but I..I..cant lose her." as Jisoo wiped her unwelcomed tears.
"Hey, don't cry.. let's just take this slowly, we haven't drink the half of the bottle and yet this convo is too much to handle." Lisa said to make things not too tense.
"Oh Lisa, stop. What's the sense of getting around the bush if this shit has been going on like wildfire for years already! Jisoo needs a raincheck - fuck she actually needs a typhoon check to put this ring fire of lies down."
"I'm here you know. Don't talk like I'm one of your neighbors. Hahaha. To be honest, this is refreshing in a way. Like, maybe it takes a bottle of Bacardi and 2 bitches to put perspective in my dull fucked-up mind." Jisoo said with a hint of smile.
Lisa grabbed her phone and connects through bluetooth to Jisoo's Marshall Killburn II. It was her gift to Jisoo on her birthday last year. She saved almost half of her salary for 6 months just to buy her bestfriend a good speaker. Why? Jisoo doesn't watch TV but she likes music.
Scared to be Lonely of Dua Lipa is blaring out when a chime from Jisoo's phone caught Lisa's attention. Lisa pointed to Jisoo her phone while she and Irene singing their lungs out.
Jisoo read a dm and suddenly her face dropped. The message was from Seulgi saying she has a friend, a fly attendant in the same airlines which Jennie booked her flight to Japan. Though Seulgi spared the name of the friend to avoid compromising her job, it was confirmed and accompanied with a screenshot of the ticket that indeed Jennie and Park Chaeyoung were on the same flight sitting beside each other.
"Wow! Are you sure Seulgi's a florist not an undercover detective? She's fast. She might be the next Sherlock." Lisa said with an agape mouth.
"Shut up Lisa, that's not the point. I know you're not ok but you know it already right? It was just an affirmation. So why you looked more hurt than earlier?" asked Irene while offering the bottle to Jisoo. She took the bottle and drank a large gulp. Burning her throat sip a little coke and took another shot.
"Whoa..whoa! Jisoo spare us some and geez." Lisa grabbed the bottle and offer her bottled water to Jisoo. Lisa only drinks hard neatly with a bottled water on the side just in case she feels the burn on her tounge.
"I know it's true but it's still fucking painful. I dont know how will I confront her tomorrow knowing that I can't let her go too.." Jisoo said exhaustedly but tearless.
Irene took another swig and her face lit up like literally you can see a lightbulb above her head. "Jennie's will fly back tomorrow, you said? Then let's welcome her the way she deserves."
Lisa gulped and took a sip from her bottled water because in a split second she thought she saw the devil in Irene. Though Irene is scary but she feels happy as to what Jennie will be facing tomorrow once she gets back.
If this is not weird Lisa envied Jennie for 3 seconds because she'll encounter hell in that beautiful face of the devil but then, erased the thought and started to fear for Jennie. But the bitch deserves it she doesn't have the right to hurt Jisoo this much. She might end Jennie before the Devil - Irene in all her glory take a single step towards Jennie Kim.
