Synopsis
This poem is a conversation between a foetus and Mother distributed over various stages of its growth & development inside the womb. In the beginning, foetus is not developed enough & cannot figure out whether it will become a boy or girl. It undergoes the same inferiorty complex , insecurity and fear that a woman has to feel everyday. When the mother herself says,”Daughters are curse”, it highlights the negligence of one woman for another’s rights and also how they fail to take the stand. Foetus feels more related to mother and assumes that it will become a Girl and shows its “fear of activities around” and also says that if it is Girl then its entirely Da’s fault for contributing X-chromosome which signifies Foetus’s care and affection for mother. When it grows enough to dramatically reveal that it developed into a ‘boy’ it calls this to be a ‘Favourable Condition’ for both of them. It also highlights how people associate birth of a boy to their honour. Mother also reveals the truth of life of a girl after birth i.e she is not free until death. Then in his pledge the boy foetus symbolically narrates how a Male can contribute to make the world a better place for Women and it motivates Mother to reflects a ‘Change’ by saying that she will take the stand If need be. ☺

Chapter 1 - Stage 1

The TRIUMPH

-by RAJAT SHARMA ☺

Foetus :-

I am a piece of DNA

With few traces of vitality

Like a blueprint of what

will carry traits of your personality

But I fear what I heard yesterday

Grandma wants me to be a boy in any way

She was so sure as she was praying

But be patient and listen what I'am saying

I know not what I am, Still,

But If I'm a girl- do they have the license to kill?

Mother :-

Oh Little one! Don't let fear ruin our joys,

Don't worry 'cause in our clan, women always produce boys

Our family's blood doesn't have such a flaw

In our family Girls only come as Daughters-in-law!!
