Firstly, I didn't know what he planned to do, so I couldn't move rashly. If he was scheming something with his pal, rushing out to grab him now would only alert him and his teammates to my presence. Even if he didn't somehow managed to escape, I would have scared away his companions, who would all go into hiding. And I doubted I could crack the dude's head open even during interrogation. There was mental magic that could read the target's mind, but of course magic was magic. In other words, as long as he put up a formidable magical defense, even a telepathic mage wouldn't be able to read Fred Franklin's mind.
There were countermeasures for everything. That was how magic worked.
