Chapter 48 - Mrs. Miller

She looked up to see the only man she ever loved. Wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans he had the same old aura around him. Sydney saw her two kids' running back to the man she knew she will never ever see. He was real, right in front of her eyes. His Black shades hid his eyes but she knew it was him.

She could recall all of her times with him in a few seconds. The moment Noah caught a running Amber Sydney got out her reverie. She waited for him to look up and see what this time without him had done to her but that never happened instead she saw Noah getting away with kids.

"Noah," she whispered more to herself.

But seeing three of them going farther was a blow to her and the moment she was going to call him again she felt a tug on her arm. And, before she could resist she recognized the person and came to a halt,

"Let's go, Sydney."

"Grace? Why?... Why he won't talk to me?" Sydney asked looking at Noah who was getting in a car with kids.

"I will tell you everything,...please don't, people are looking at you,...and they know you are Mrs. Miller." Sydney wanted her arm to get free but looking around her she let Grace took her to another black car.

"Get me to Noah. I can't let my kids without me," Sydney ordered the person who was driving the car.

"Sydney, please listen to us first," Grace said,

"Hi, I am Michael," The driver spoke,

"I know you! You are Mr. Saad's client." Sydney said looking at the driver and this made Grace say.

"Sydney, he is my husband and we two are Noah's friends. I hope you remember me."

"I know but,..." Sydney was cut off when Grace explained,

"I am sorry we two knew that you were alive. Michael and I saw you in Boston six months ago. We wanted to tell you but only once,..." Grace trailed off but knowing that they knew she was alive and away from her family made her felt cheated.

"If you two were friends, you should have told me about Noah,...about my kids..." Sydney seemed to be disappointed.

"Sydney,...I am really sorry. But we didn't want to take the chance." Grace tried to explain.

"What are we talking about?" Sydney asked a little scared inside.

"Noah knows you but he doesn't know you," Grace said and made Sydney puzzle.

"What do you mean?" Sydney asked,

"Sydney, we didn't know you were alive and Noah was in the coma for three years and when he woke up he couldn't see and there was so much going on. And,...and when doctors questioned him it was gathered he had forgotten a lot. In fact, he had forgotten about how Sarah played him and this is when his grandaunt asked us to come and make him feel,...normal."

"He loves Sarah now." Sydney gasped.

"No, more like mourn over her but she is dead so we didn't try to,..." Grace trailed off in her guilt. The reason for never explaining Noah was more into the fact that they didn't want to lose their friend because of Sarah again but now everything seemed to be more complex.

"He,...he doesn't know me," Sydney asked for having things more clear.

"No, no, we have told him that he married you but,..." Grace again stopped to look at her husband.

"But what,..."Sydney asked her to continue.

"There is no way to sugar coat it and it might hurt,..." Grace again trailed off,

"Grace, tell me already," Sydney didn't have any more patience. She felt as if she was denied her every right to being at peace.

"He never asked about you ever,..." This made Sydney lower her eyes before she turned her face to look out of the window. The silence ruled in the car before she found her voice again.

"You should have told me about Noah when you met me," Sydney asked, looking right into Michael's eyes through the rearview mirror.

"I thought you are dead, and,..."Michael started to explain but something told him to stop and be more sympathetic about Sydney's situation.

"We contacted Noah's grandaunt for explanation and she said you cheated and didn't want a husband who was in the coma," Michael's voice came out low this time.

"And, now,...now what has changed? Why you two,..." Sydney inquired but Michael was quick to explain.

"Kent was my father's friend and he contacted me to make sure that Noah stays once you reach Mexico, so, you could see him,"

"And, you failed,..." Sydney pointed,

"No, we made sure that you don't see him," This made Sydney look at Grace in confusion.

"Why?" Sydney had to ask in the absence of any response.

"Noah can lose his sight again if he is subjected to shear stress or emotional distress." Grace explained lowly.

"Do you think,...I am stress?" Sydney asked.

"No, Sydney. This is the reason that we were against the idea of him dealing with the company." Grace commented.

"...Yes, and don't even start us how he and his kids have finally come to bond with each other." Michael added,

"You have no idea how much Gideon has suffered to make sure his father loves him and Amber doesn't say something bad." Listening to this made Sydney's heart squeeze in her chest. Her kids don't deserve a life where they have to struggle to feel loved and that too when she was alive.

"This,...all of this is so overwhelming," Sydney said before lowering her head.

"And, there is one more thing,...we can't afford to make him angry and, he with his old self is very difficult to contain," Grace added another piece of information.

"For how long it will go?" Sydney asked.

"It's been seven months since he got his eyesight back. Michael and I never did anything to annoy him and he too tries to practice controlling his emotions." Grace explained.

"No, I mean when I can tell that he,...I,..." Sydney tries to explain her point but couldn't complete her sentence.

"Sydney, he is completely normal. It's just he has to control his blood pressure all the time so his eye doesn't come under stress. It is still very sensitive after the multiple surgeries he has gone through." Grace said and Sydney gathered that they don't have an answer. Her chest was stuff with tears because she could see another mountain ahead but knew this time she won't be alone. Her kids will be her strength.

"Sydney, it won't be an easy road to take. Now you tell where you want to go?" Sydney heard Michael say.

"I don't have anyone but him in my life. I will not live a second without my kids and him, not even a single second...You two have done a great job but now let me do it my way." Listening to Sydney's plan Grace started,

"Sydney,..." but Michael cut her off saying,

"Grace? She is right...Sydney where you would like me to drop you?" Michael asked looking at Sydney

"To my family," Sydney replied and sounded determined.

No one said a word until Michael stopped his car in front of a hotel.

"Thanks," Sydney said before getting out of the car. She was passing the reception when she realized that she never asked where exactly Noah was. She gulped hard before turning around to ask for directions from Grace again but found those two in front of her.

"You have no idea how difficult we have made things for you," Michael said and Grace nodded,

"We will be around until Noah realizes who are you?" Grace said and Sydney looked at them both with gratitude. The three walked in silence to the suite on the top floor.

Sydney walked in to find a huge apartment that had a plush sofa, a bar, and a beautiful view. She couldn't help but recall the times when Noah and she were used to looking at the view for hours. In those times she used to feel so invincible. Sydney walked to look at the view when she heard a cheerful voice.

"Fairy,..." Sydney turned to find Amber. With her knees on the floor, she hugged Amber as if someone will steal her if she let her go.

"I totally forgot about you," Amber added running her small hand on Sydney's back.

"Who are you?" Sydney heard and looked up to find Noah only in his shorts. Never in her life had she ever thought to hear this question from the person she loved most.

"I,..." Sydney was at the loss of words.

"She is the new babysitter I appointed for kids." Everyone heard Grace but Noah couldn't look away from Sydney's face. As if he knew her and tried to recall her. Sydney couldn't help but look at the scar near his right eye that went all the way to his disheveled hair. It took every bit of her energy to not touch that scar and ask him how he had been.

Noah could see the way that the girl was checking out his scar. But she didn't seem to shiver with his interrogating mode. He could see there was something wrong with this girl. She was indeed hiding something and he couldn't help but ask.

"What's with you?" Sydney stayed still as if hoping he will recall everything somehow.

"What's with her?" Michael tried to neutralize the environment and tried his best to sound normal getting behind the bar.

"What's your name?" Noah asked closing the gap between them until he had his hand on Amber's head.

"Sydney."

"I was asking your surname," Noah's voice irked this time.

"You can call me Mrs. Miller," Sydney said and saw something changing in Noah's eyes.
