The long stretch of the road started to become irritating in my eyes, the wind started to freeze my face and my fingers started to become numb. We have been going down the long stretch of paved road in approximately two hours without even stopping at the side for the fear of more war-bots coming for our tail. I don't know where Catina is taking us, but I know it's somewhere safe.
I let out a breath, like what I've been doing for every minute. My mind was racing, every thought of them destroying my home spiked anger in me, it has been my home for quite a few years and I've grown accustomed towards the wildlife. I could feel my revenge brewing under my skin, a lot has piled up and it's already overflowing.
"Lydia?"
Snapping out of my thoughts, I hummed upon hearing Leo's voice "are you okay?" I let out a breath "I'm beyond furious, what would you think I would feel? They freaking destroyed my home!" I seethed, he nods but never responded to my small rant.
The long drive continued for another hour until we came across a diner. Catina finally decided to have a shortstop. Once Leo parked the bike right beside the car where everyone started to get out, I carefully got off the bike, slightly wobbling which I had to hold Leo's forearm so as to not, I hissed "what's wrong?" I shake my head as he carefully got down the bike and gently held me up "My legs are just numb from the long ride" I said wincing as it then started to feel ticklish.
Catina came over to us "Lyd, you okay?" I nod as my legs started to feel a bit better "let's rest for a while, get something to munch" I nod letting go of Leo's forearm, however, he interlocked our fingers. I looked over at the others and saw Ryker and Mason holding up Caleb, I looked at Meira "can't you do anything?" she shakes her head
"he's not injured, he just drained his energy, he'll recover by himself"
I nod, then we started to make our way towards the diner. As the entrance opened, the little bell on top chimed. The diner was filled with a few travelers that opt to go beyond provincial borders. We chose to sit on an empty booth, Caleb groaned as Ryker and Mason gently set him down on the cushioned seat. I sat across them and I caught a glimpse of Catina eyeing Caleb with worry, I let out a breath "did you bring cash?" I asked her.
She nodded as she sat down beside Caleb. A waitress came to our aid and gave us menus, Leo scanned through the few pages "what's good?" he looked at me, I shrugged "I don't know, I haven't eaten here before" I looked at the waitress looking around the tale with wide hazel eyes "Excuse me?" she looked at me and showed me a small smile, taking out a pad of paper and a pen.
"what would you like to have?" she asked softly, I hummed "what's good in the menu?" I asked her, she pursed her lips before telling us a few dishes that actually received good ratings or are mostly ordered other than any dishes listed in their menu.
"I'll have the veggie chicken burger and a glass of lemonade" I ordered soon followed by the others, ordering what they would like to try. However, Caleb is a different story. He's half asleep on Catina's shoulder who surprisingly wasn't irritated "Caleb, what would you like to have?" Catina asked him, he just whined and snuggled closer to her.
She sighed and looked at the waitress "grilled steak and a cup of black americano for him" the waitress wrote it on her paper pad "I'll have your order in ten" she collected the menu and left to give our orders to the chef. I looked at Catina "where are we headed?" I asked, she adjusts Caleb so that his head is situated on her lap, she looked at me "back at my old hiding spot"
my eyes widened "what?! you haven't been there for what? 5, 6 years?" back at high school, Catina created her own hideout, sure it wasn't that pleasant but it keeps her off the radar every time. Way back in high school, she brought me to her hideout since we really weren't up to attending classes and she openly explained to me how it all works.
"Well, I visit it once a while to renovate, its better than before" she grins, my jaw dropped open "wait, what are we talking about here?" Ryker butted in. I looked at him "a place where I know they wouldn't find us until we figure out how to look for this person" Catina responded, Ryker looked at her and nodded.
"how did they find us?" Mason questioned
I shake my head "that, I'm still trying to figure out" I murmured although I know Leo's outburst played a big part in this happening, "you called them war-bots, Lyd, do you know anything about them?" I looked at Farren beside me and shake my head "I know so little" I glanced at Catina who gave me a solemn look, she knows.
Who am I kidding? she always knows.
I cleared my throat and looked down, fiddling with my fingers. I take in deep breaths before I held my head high "My father attempted to create one but failed to do so, but that was years ago, he already destroyed whatever of it was left" I explained, feeling a warm hand on mine, I looked at Leo, his red eyes filled with concern, I just nodded at him although I wasn't near to what vibe he was giving off.
When it comes to the talk about my father, it's a really sensitive topic.
"Oh, then where is he? Maybe he can help" I looked down, glaring at my lap "he's dead" I gritted, the angry feeling in my chest grew. Farren and Meira gasped "oh dear, we're so sorry hun, we didn't know" I silently nodded at them. I wasn't mad at them, I was mad at myself, I haven't tried hard enough finding out who killed my father.
Feeling a strong, muscular arm wrap around my waist, I looked at Leo, he kissed my forehead and this time, I just leaned onto him. He tucked me under his arm, his chin on top of my head. The waitress came back with a waiter holding trays of our orders. They both carefully placed it on the table, "enjoy your meal!" they cheered clearly oblivious of the sour mood.
Catina gently woke Caleb up and we started eating. The table was silent the whole time until we finished and got out of the diner "so, where's this safe place at? a big city?" Meira asked, trying to lift the mood. Catina smirked "Close enough"
All of their brows furrowed "we're going to where Lydia and I had the time of living like freaks on loose, a place so boring that you could die in an hour" Catina vaguely explained, Ryker raised his hand up "Ooh! School!" Catina snapped her fingers "right!"
"wait, how's school a safe place?"
Catina chuckled as Leo hopped on the bike and started the engines "Oh no, darling" she sighed "we won't be seen" I smiled at her
