Chapter 44 - In Trouble

Right now Chen Yan was watching the a movie with Ling'er and Xiaohei.

Ling'er sat with a bowl of popcorn while Xiaohei was reading a book called How to Speak Chinese. Chen Yan was yapping her fingers on the couch aggressively.

"How was your day, Ling'er?" She asked strangely calmly. Her tone made Ling'er nervous.

"Um, it was okay, I guess. Our class went on a field trip to the Divine Hall, something happened, and we had to leave, but it was interesting!" She said carefully, not wanting to worry her sister.

"Interesting huh? Something happened...? I wonder what? I'm sure Xiaohei would know all about that. Why don't you tell us what happened Xiaohei." She said with a cold smile, there was no room in her words for argument.

"...nothing. I wasn't allowed in. Ah Yes, What's this box? There are little humans inside it. Is it perhaps another world that you humans are the god of?" He tried to change the subject with his inquiries on the television, then he made eyes at Ling'er, winking subtly. He didn't dare use soul communion, as Chen Yan, cultivating a powerful soul art, would be able to hear everything, even with their soul link. Ling'er was clever, and got the message. She knew how to keep a secret, and didn't want her sister to worry herself about the incident, or connect it to them.

"Oh really..." she ignored his question about the TV. "Then how do you explain... that?"

She changed the channel to the news. Where there were still reports on the 'incident'.

"We have an update on the Hall Massacre of 2/25. We turn to Ling Wuyu for details."

"Thank you Mr. Shen. Right now I'm here with the police, who have just recovered what data was left by the security cameras, which were all but destroyed during the incident. Chief Wang, what did you find?"

"We recovered only a few still images and a single video from the cameras. We received permission to reveal it to the public. I'll warn you now that if you have any health conditions then be careful, as some images aren't very tame." He then turned to his computer.

The picture was very blurry and in monochrome colors, but revealed a vague feline figure with white wings, a long tail, and a skull for a head. It had its jaw open and looked to be roaring. The next image showed the same blurry figure moving toward a person, it looked small compared to the human. The last image was of the figure spreading a persons chest while he was still alive and having an unclear meaty organ in the teeth of the skull.

"Our analysts are still working on enhancing the images, but we can assume this thing has a feline body, a skull head, and is half a meter tall and a meter long, according to size comparison with the man in the photo."

"Can we see the video?" Asked the reporter.

"Of course, but it's not very good." He clicked another file in the computer

"AAAH! HELP! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"

"DEVIL! THE DEVIL HAS COME FOR ME!"

"Oh heavenly father, have mercy on us all and forgive my sins!"

"Mother of god it's a portal to the other side! No! I'm not rea-krk?!"

It was a blurry video where constant howling was heard, but the countless screaming was very prominent. A shadowy figure fell upon one of the screaming men, and with a single swipe, split his body into 3 pieces. 2 of which flew into a dusty vortex in the background and he last held down by the figure's claws. It was the torso, the figure then tore his chest open and stuck it's skull head inside. Upon rising, an organ, which all can presume to be his heart, was held within the jaws of the skull.

"Are you telling me that's not you?" Chen Yan looked at Xiaohei with a spine tingling smile.

"Of... course not. I'm right here, how can I be in that little box. Besides, I have a normal head, see?" Xiaohei had no idea what these images were. Was that him? Now that he thought about it, those humans did look a little familiar. He was starting to look nervous. He didn't know why, but he felt an irresistible pressure from Chen Yan that made his spine tingle. Was it a bloodline suppression that was inherited from his link with Ling'er?

"Is that so..." Chen Yan turned around, and dug through something, then turned back and slapped something over Xiaohei's head.

"What's this?" Xiaohei was confused, and patted his head before freezing.

"...Where did you find this?" He was sure he had buried it in the yard.

"I dug it up!" She said with a smile so bright that it could annihilate the abyss all over again.

"But..."

"What can you hide from me, I can read your mind." She was glaring now, and her gaze was so cold it might've been able to salvage the abyss if she were there.

He looked at Ling'er, but she did not dare go against her sister. So he finally confessed his sins.

"...yes, I did that- OW!" The moment he finished his sentence Chen Yan slapped the side of the skull. The shock made Xiaohei's head spin and the skull as well, as it was now facing the wrong direction.

"Huh? What happened? Why can't I see?" Disoriented, he fumbled about and fell off the couch.

"Why? Why did you kill all those people?!" She said angrily. Though they were the type to be rather unsympathetic to strangers, for this tiger to slaughter over 2 dozen people who was only doing their job was completely different to killing half a dozen who was trying to extort them.

"I don't know how you can see into the past, but if you can, you should be able to tell that it was they who prevented my escape. I had no choice but to kill them to escape. The rest I killed because I couldn't allow witnesses, I decided to remain low key after all." He said bluntly, though it was indeed enjoyable, he never killed for sport. He was not a human after all.

Chen Yan frowned. She needed to do something about him. She couldn't just turn him into the police, her sister would suffer as well...

"I've decided." She looked straight into his eyes. "You'll follow me for a few days, I'm going to teach you about society."
