Chapter 366 - Battle of Liguang: Sacrifice (8)

On the other side, thanks to his intervention, the Royal Guards and Grand Knights successfully fended off Reverent Monk and Poisoned Widow long enough for the other experts to step in. The situation seemed to stabilize for the time being. Xiuying held her gaze on Cardinal Hui, before turning to Benedict and asking, "Are you okay?"

"…" Benedict and Shirley had strange expressions.

"What is it?" Xiuying frowned.

"…It's nothing."

Benedict tried to stand, but he immediately stumbled. Shirley caught him, and the two of them stood up slowly. Their bodies were sore, bruised, and bloody from Reverent Monk's ruthless beatings. Although the 'battle' lasted only for a few seconds, a little more and they would really die! Xiuying's assistance was a lifesaver. This made them depressed because they trained so hard for so long only for this to be the result. It made them feel that their training was fruitless. Of course, they were facing a Perception Realm Master, one of the few people standing at the top of the human world, while they were a full realm beneath, but it did little to sway their melancholy. Thankfully, these feelings came and passed in a heartbeat. They were not about to let their emotions sway their composure.

"Are you two okay?" Elizabeth rushed over.

"Just barely," Benedict replied. He did not notice Xiuying's sidelong gaze. "If it wasn't for your help, then we would have died. Thank you."

"What about you?" Shirley asked in return. "Aren't you out of Magic Energy? Isn't it dangerous to keep casting spells?"

"Since it was a low-level spell, it didn't require that much Magic Energy. As long as you two are safe, then it's fine."

"This isn't the time for chatting! Look!" Freon shouted.

As everyone glanced over, the battlefield made a dramatic shift! The last defensive line was finally broken through by the Imperial Council! Despite being manned by the strongest soldiers that the Alzar Kingdom could offer, the Imperial Council was simply too tyrannical. In less than a few minutes, they had decisively broken through! One had to know that against a similar force, the Steel Eagle Brigade was practically impenetrable and nigh-invincible. Even when greatly outnumbered, everyone possessed strength that matched five or ten of a normal person. Yet, the Phoenix Division could cleave their way through so quickly, which was indicative of their immense power. If the interference surrounding Liguang had not limited their power, then it would have been even faster. When they joined the fight, the delicate balance between the top experts was shattered. Elizabeth realized that the critical point had arrived!

Sir Winstin grimaced. He could no longer afford to be tied down by his opponents. He had to return to Elizabeth's side! He glanced at Mingyu Loon, who seemed to share his thoughts as well. The two of them decided to give it their all as their auras quickly consolidated and strengthened several times over. They released a pressure great enough to startle Perception Realm Masters, much less the people beneath that. It was extremely close to Half-Instinct Realm! Sir Winstin and Mingyu Loon then crouched down and pushed off the ground, shooting across the battlefield like a pair of shooting stars! Their speed was far faster than anything that they displayed thus far. It was their fastest speed possible! It was so fast that their bodies blurred into afterimages and disappeared. Even Perception Realm Masters, whose senses surpassed mortal limits and beyond, were dazed. Cardinal Loujin, Yongyu, and Thousand Storms instantly raised their guards or counterattacked. The battle was over in a split-second!

Sir Winstin and Mingyu Loon appeared behind their opponents and suddenly kneeled. Mingyu Loon's sword cracked, while blood trickled out of her mouth. Looking down, Cardinal Yongyu's sword was impaled in her chest all the way through until it stuck out her back! Her clothes were slowly dyeing red from the blood loss, causing her complexion to pale significantly. Sir Winstin was not much better either. He was no longer holding his glaive, but his sword since his glaive was already destroyed. His right arm was also cut off from the shoulder down and blood spurted out from the stump. Although he tried to wrap it up and stop the blood loss, his armor got in the way. The two were in terrible shape! Despite that, they were not the losers in the exchange. The ones who lost were their opponents!

Cardinal Loujin stumbled forward listlessly when two gigantic blood streams ruptured from his neck, showering the battlefield in red. Who could have imagined that a human body could contain so much blood? It was seemingly endless! The man then collapsed face-first into the ground. Boom! Just from the impact of his huge body, heavy plate armor, and thick shield created a resounding explosion and shockwave, startling everyone. Everyone's eyes widened in surprise. Cardinal Loujin, who seemed to define the word 'invincible', was someone that was almost never injured. Throughout all the battles he had fought in, the number of injuries he sustained could be counted on one hand alone! Even against Perception Realm Masters, even if the sky fell, then he would hold it up! He was the Four Cardinal's symbol of invincibility! To witness him losing, every imperial soldier felt their world being flipped upside-down. An absolute titan among Perception Realms, the vanguard of the Four Cardinals, and the so-called strongest man in the human world… Cardinal Loujin Qwai had died!

Cardinal Yongyu and Thousand Storms were quiet too, as they reviewed what happened in that split-second. Mingyu Loon attacked Cardinal Yongyu and the woman tried to defend, but try was the keyword. Mingyu Loon was simply too fast, moving at a speed that exceeded human limits and reactions. She had no choice, but to rein her defense in and try fighting offense with offense. It was the same trick that Thousand Storms succeeded with. Mingyu Loon's speed was a double-edged sword, since it limited her reaction speed as well! The cardinal thrusted her sword forward to skewer her opponent, but the reaction exceeded her expectations. Mingyu Loon was even more decisive than Sir Winstin, and completely ignored Cardinal Yongyu's attack! It plunged deep into her chest, sending waves of pain up, but the woman smiled in return with her battle instincts strengthening. She was a true demon! The cardinal tried to disengage and distance herself, but how could her opponent let her go? With one slash of the sword, it was all over.

For Thousand Storms, Sir Winstin attacked him. Sir Winstin was slightly slower than Mingyu Loon, but he compensated with his tremendous wealth of combat experience and technique, which made him arguably more dangerous than Mingyu Loon in Thousand Storms's mind. Thousand Storm loved challenging powerful foes, but that only applied to powerful swordsmen. He had no interest in fighting a glaivier. Nonetheless, that did not mean that he took Sir Winstin lightly. He focused on his sword and executed his strongest technique, a near-instantaneous slash! According to rumors, it could cut through lightning, hence giving him the title of Thousand Storms! He attacked Sir Winstin as soon as the man entered his range. The blade seemed to whistle in the air and released a unique sound. It cleaved down with indomitable force, shattering Sir Winstin's glaive and chopping his arm clean off! It was a perfect attack! However, Sir Winstin predicted it and sacrificed both his glaive and arm. When his glaive was destroyed, he grabbed one part and counterattacked.

Once they were done with their opponents, Sir Winstin and Mingyu Loon descended on Cardinal Loujin. The cardinal struck out with his shield and generated enough wind pressure to threaten the two. Sir Winstin jumped up to avoid the strike, but Mingyu Loon was not as lucky. Because she was too heavily wounded, she could not change directions as easily as she would have liked. Cardinal Yongyu's sword was still stuck in her chest! She flashed a crazy smile and decided to take the blow head-on! Cardinal Loujin's shield slammed into her with enough force to pulverize her into liquid. Mingyu Loon defended with her sword, causing it to almost snap, while her consciousness blanked out for a moment. It felt like a mountain was crashing into her! However, she was a true battle maniac. Using Cardinal Loujin's strike, she slowed down to the point she could execute her high-speed movement technique! Without hesitation, Mingyu Loon broke her own ankle and brushed past the cardinal's attack, managing to evade the fatal blow!

In the air, Sir Winstin unsheathed his sword and dove down like a hawk. On the ground, Mingyu Loon stepped off Cardinal Loujin and rose like a tiger. The two intersected at the cardinal's neck in a flash of lightning! Cardinal Loujin shifted his body weight backwards to dodge, but Sir Winstin had already seen through that move. Furthermore, a sword was many times easier to wield than a glaive, so it gave him more control that his glaive would have otherwise been unable to offer. This time, he would not miss! Mingyu Loon mimicked his movements and adjusted her target too. This correction was the difference between life or death! Bang! They plunged their swords deep into the man's neck and delivered a perfect fatal blow! The rest was history. Cardinal Loujin had fallen!
