Some new abomination was attacking from the sky. They seemed to be misshapen birds. Nothing to the greatness of lord Brand. I point my hand to the sky and fire rakes the birds.
Squawk!!!
The birds come screaming through the fire and peck at the musketeers. The birds took bites and talons of the cavalry men before flying back into the sky. One of the bastards on the horses lost an eye to a beak. His screaming and the talons that cut the horse caused the beast to panic. The slashes the horse suffered caused it to panic and flee.
The injured rider rode out of formation screaming. The rest of the low born fired pistols into the air. The knights made a formation around me.
The knights were useful. At least useful for non-mages. The fleeing cavalryman on the other hand was useless. The sun mage raised his hand and as he willed fire chased down the escaping cavalry man. The man screamed as he burned to the mages delight.
The ugly birds where a pain but it was likely they could be killed with smoke inhalation. The same way I killed every other sun mage in the city the lowborn scum. The screaming of the rider stopped early. I know exactly how long it takes to burn to death and the man should have screamed for a while longer.
A set of reptilian jaws emerged from the flame and crushed a knight helmet. The metal collapsed like paper. Blood burst out the helmet as the knight was dragged off by the horse sized lizard. The knights rushed before me forming a wall of blades and hammers. They are old dogs. Ones close to retirement who can learn no new tricks. But throwing yourself in between danger and myself is something they know.
A hammer blow nocked a lizard to the ground. The rest of the line stabbed and hammered the creature. The beast's scales seemed to deflect any sword blows. My guards holding swords moved to the front to better to protect me. After all, if they can't kill they should guard the more capable men. More teeth grabbed men pulling knights into my fire or away into side streets. Five of these lizards met their end by the hammers of the knights. Still ten nights where lost.
The cavalry has been picked apart by those birds. Only one rider still has eyes left in his head. The others are all blind on the floor.
Bang!!!
A musket hole dug into one of the knight's backs. I look behind me to see the largest rat I've ever seen scramble into burning ruins. I could have sworn it was carrying a musket. I reach my other hand and channel the sun to burn the ruins the rat ran to.
My radiant flame jets from both hands turning these peasant homes into ash. Along with the rats who live there.
Gunshots ring out from where the peasant soldiers store themselves. That soldier from the royal army most likely won't be sending help then. He has been too cautious as of late. I would just burn him if I had anyone else who could keep the peasant hoard useable.
Squee!!!
A pig the size of two war horses barrels out of my flame. Its skin is burning but it doesn't seem to care as it barrels into the line of fully armored knights in front of me. The beast tramples them grabbing one man in its gigantic mouth.
I focus all my fire in front of me. I feel a pain in my body, and I see the cobles above me. The ground is not underneath my feet. My face hits the ground first and my lips taste like soot and stone.
I stager to my feet to see the lizards and pig eating the rest of my knights. The pigs body looks like its healing as it eats a screaming knight.
I raise my hands to try to burn the pig but feel no sunlight. I look for my amulet of sunstones to see it lying on the street nearby. I stager to my feet to get it. As I walk over to it a rat runs into the street takes it in its teeth.
"Vermin!" I shout.
The rat takes my sunstones into a sewer hole. My knights dead I hear the buzzing of insects. I call to the sun for power but get no response. I look to the sky. It should be noon I must be at the height of my power. The sky above me is a thick cloud of ash.
The beasts and insects circle me. Not approaching to finish the job.
"I beat a sun mage at noon," says a raspy voice.
I look to see a twisted pail man in a cloak covered in moon stones. He is disgusting and misshapen. A bulging red fly eyeball looks at me from under his cloak. He holds a pistol in his hand.
"To think you would block out the sun with your own magic," declared the mage.
I try to detonate the gunpowder in the pistol with my magic but can't seem to muster the energy.
"You must think you're something really special to be this stupid," says this ugly man. "Good by Lord Brand"
Bang!!!
