Chapter 1 - 1 First Night In

Moving to a new community is very stressful on the first day. My belongings were dropped off in my new house and stacked in the living room. I spent the whole day unpacking and organizing and moving boxes.

By the time I was half finished, it was already 7pm. I was already tired and hungry so I made myself a red mac for dinner and gave Midnight a can of fancy feast tuna.

After I washed the dishes and stored them in the kitchen cabinet, I headed straight up the stairs and into my bedroom. I grabbed a towel, some toiletries and a robe from the boxes beside the walk in closet. I let the tub fill up while I stripped off my clothes, damp with sweat then got in. I groaned in delight. A warm bath after an exhausting day was truly rewarding.

Thirty minutes later, Midnight was meowing beside the tub, pestering me to set up her basket bed.

"Alright, I'm on it. Water's getting cold anyway," I said, as I stood up to unplug the tub. I dried myself and put on my robe.

It took a while for me to find her bed. Turns out it was still in one of the boxes downstairs.

I ended up taking the whole box and climbed up the stairs. As I took a step, I heard a cluttering noise in the back yard. I shrugged it off because I thought it was merely a racoon or something.

When I got back to my room, Midnight was nowhere to be seen. I checked the bathroom, but she wasn't there either. I peeked under the queen sized bed and found her curled up and hissing in defense form. She bared her sharp teeth, paws ready to scratch and attack.

"What's wrong, girl?" I cooed, but she only hissed louder and backed up further underneath the bed.

She wouldn't move an inch no matter how many times I called to her.

She was afraid. But she wasn't the only one.

CRASH!

I squeal at the sound of a shattering glass door from downstairs.

Okay, I was really starting to freak out.

I grabbed a metal bat I hid in the closet and made my descent to the place of the shattered door.

There I saw lurking in the darkness was a creature preying upon me. Its glowing red eyes staring at me intensely, full of hunger. Its deep low growl sent chills down my spine, the little hairs stood from the back of my neck. It stood six feet tall and its face was pale as sheet. Then it occurred to me, this wasn't an animal but a man, yet something about him felt off.

"I-I'm going to call the cops!"

He only tilted his head and smirked, then slowly walked towards me, not seeming to care. I was frozen where I stood, paralyzed in his piercing eyes.

As if in a trance, I drop my bat.

He makes a full stop. Barely any space inbetween.
