Chapter 23 - Chapter 23:

As Colette continued to freak out internally, her face glowed a soft pink.

Meanwhile...

For some reason, Chris wanted to be shameless and show off in front of Colette, even though he was usually lowkey about his appearance. Or at least tried to be.

'Ah I know, it's her stony expression. I can't help but tease her, to gauge a reaction.' Chris grinned stupidly, like a fool in love. Well.. he was on his way to being one...

Colette tore her gaze away from Chris, as she decided to help him while he was on the island. After all, he was her crush, previously? Besides, she can pursue him with almost perfect conditions.

They're ALONE on the island, no one else to interfere and she is vital for his survival on this strange island.

'I can basically blackmail him without him knowing, using my experience on the island. He'll need to rely on me, it'll be especially good if he tries to pester after me like he has so far. Alright let's begin with an introduction. Be friendly! Wait no... he'll find the change in attitude suspicious! Let's be more subtle.'

"Ahem, I'm Colette. I should be ... 21 years old?" Colette mumbled her introduction as if she was speaking to herself.

"Should be?" Chris questioned, hoping he wasn't being too intrusive.

"Oh, I'm not too sure how long I've been here. I arrived when I was 16 years old." Saying that she had 'arrived' was sugar coating it, she was abandoned, left to die. But he didn't need to know that.

"Wow you're really adventurous huh, setting out at 16 and living alone ahahah," noticing her expression was amiss, Chris attempted to lighten the mood.

"May I ask you what month and year it is?"

"Why of course, 26th of June 20XX." Noticing Colette's reaction return to normal, Chris made a mental note to not ask about how she arrived.

"Eh? It's only 20XX?? It felt a lot longer than just 3 years. I should be 19 years old then."

'It has felt like so much longer. Guess all this time alone has distorted my sense of time.'

"Wow that means you're only four years younger than me!" Chris exclaimed

"Follow me." Colette directed as she turned to walk through the lush green foliage towards her treehouse hut. Chris obediently followed behind her, admiring the vibrant green of the various plants, trees and bushes.

Walking in front, Colette was still thinking about how she should tell him about her arrival without revealing the truth.

'Should I just gloss everything over with amnesia?' Colette thought.

"About your question on how I arrived." Hearing that she would speak about her past, it peaked his interest. Which caused him to quicken his pace and so he took a few large strides forward to close the gap in distance. Which was fairly easy for a guy that was about 180cm.

He peered down at her face from the right, ready to listen.

"That, well I don't really remember why I'm here. I woke up one day and I was here." Colette responded in a flat tone as she caressed her long black hair. It's not a complete lie.

'A lie?' Chris caught onto her sudden awkward behaviour, from averting her gaze to caressing her hair. Though she averted her gaze several times when they talked before, it was only momentarily, before she returned her attention back to him. Looking straight into his eyes again. But here she wasn't even holding eye contact.

Not to mention, fiddling around with her hair was another sign. It could be she was nervous, but why would she be nervous, because she's uncomfortable or because it's a lie?

'Maybe I'm overthinking this. It is what it is, no need for me to play Sherlock Homes.'
