Zayn kept his professional face on, even though he could clearly see the two love bites on Kai's neck.
Yes, bites.
One very red mark at the side of the neck and one lower down below the collarbone.
It wasn't too obvious, so he didn't point it out.
The one on the side of the neck would only be visible when Kai turned his head to the left, whilst the one on his chest would only be seen if one was standing right beside Kai if the latter was sitting down.
Since Zayn would be the only one who would ever be in that position, it means only he could see it. He even suspected there were many more littered on that chest of his.
The thought made Zayn slightly uncomfortable.
Weren't the two progressing just too fast?
He had thought Lianne was the sweet, innocent type … but then again, there was this hungry wolf by her side. Just how long would such a delectable dish be left uneaten?
Zayn figured that his feeling of uneasiness was just at the fact that the lamb gave as good as she got.
Zayn mentally shook his head.
No, that was not the issue here.
The issue here was not on the fact that Kai had a very good time last night, but at the fact that Kai was not hiding what had transpired.
He was showing it off.
The question was, why?
He then saw Kai rub the back of his neck, and he unbutton a few more buttons before holding onto the shirt and flapping it.
As if he was hot.
But at the same time, Zayn could see that Kai's chest was littered with a lot of love bites.
Zayn gritted his teeth and waited patiently as Kai went through the documents and signing them before giving them back to Zayn.
Zayn took it, his eyes merely on the documents, and left.
Kai watched him go with a smirk.
Right when the door closed, Kai picked up the phone and called his grandmother.
It hardly rang before it was picked up, and before her sharp voice could snap into the receiver, Kai said happily, "Grammie!"
"Humph," snorted the lady on the other end, "So you haven't forgotten this old lady, huh?"
"How could I forget you, Grammie?" Kai said cajolingly, his voice soft and teasing, "You're always special to me and in my heart."
His grandmother snorted again.
"Grammie, Grammie. I have something to tell you," Kai said enthusiastically, "You're the first person I'm telling, so you must keep it a secret, okay?"
His grandmother's ears perked up.
First person?
What about his mother?
"What is it?" his grandmother replied, her voice sounding displeased even though she sported a huge grin on the other end of the phone.
"I found the girl that I want to marry," Kai said, "And I want you to be the first person to meet her."
"Oh?"
"You'll certainly love her, Grammie," Kai said softly, "She reminds me so much of you. She's kind, sweet and most of all, she loves me for me."
His grandmother snorted, "And the millions behind you, I bet."
"She's not like that, Grammie," Kai replied, "You'll see what I mean when you meet her."
"Fine," his grandmother answered, "When?"
"How about this weekend? Grandpa won't be home, right?" Kai asked, "He's got that whatnot gathering with his old buddies."
"Don't worry, the old fool won't be around," his grandmother confirmed, "Bring her over for lunch."
"I really, really like her, Grammie," Kai said, "It would mean the world to me if you could get along with her."
She snorted and said before putting down the phone.
Kai grinned.
Only he could talk to his grandmother like this, and he would only do so in private. Everyone was afraid of her because she had this 'bitching-resting-face' that seemed like she would eat anyone who came close.
She did, too, bark at them because she was completely impatient with the simpering fools that kept shaking when facing her. So they basically kept their distance though they were completely respectful to her.
So when this little innocent boy just went up to her and clung to her leg with sparkly eyes, she melted immediately.
Though she didn't show it.
She was still gruff but he didn't take it to heart nor shy away, which cemented his position in her heart.
To others, he was just an obedient and filial grandson who was just slightly close to the grandmother but she didn't show any favouritism openly. Most were just happy he was there to appease her.
The only person who she would listen to, was his grandfather.
Which only made people respect and fear the Patriarch even more.
She aided him behind the scenes, saved him face, and seemingly allowed him to control the Family.
Kai sighed.
He was rather fond of his grandmother but that was about it. He would treat her well as she did protect him and his mother all this while - but he knew her well. The only real person she loved, was herself.
So long as she could use him, she would. If granting him something he wanted, she would probably give it so long as he would remain loyal to her.
That was why he made this move.
Make it be known that he was actively pursuing a woman, and that he was serious. Next, be the first to tell his grandmother about it before Zayn did. Or before she confronted him with it.
This was just the groundwork. The preparation, so to speak.
The first battle would be on Saturday.
He sighed as he thought about Lianne.
He had just planned to tell her about the lunch and let her be herself. He was sure her natural charm would charm his grandmother easily.
But now, maybe that wasn't going to be enough.
She wanted to know his plans.
How much should he tell her?
He didn't know yet.
Well … perhaps he should spend the week there at her apartment.
This would take a long time to talk about and think, right?
Seems like he will need more stuff to bring over to her apartment.
