After becoming husband and wife, Lianne and Kai went to greet Stephan.
"Well, welcome to the family," Stephen said gruffly.
"Thank you, Sir," Kai began, then Lianne poked him in the ribs, "I mean, er…"
"Papa," Lianne helpfully told him.
Kai swallowed a bit first before calling his father-in-law for the first time, "Papa."
He was just not used to it.
The Shengs were rather rigid and formal, thus terms such as 'Mama' or 'Papa' seemed alien to him. It was 'Mother' and 'Father', then 'Sir' and 'Ma'am' to others. It would take him some time to familiarise himself with using the terms.
Luckily, Stephan wasn't the 'hugging' type so he didn't need to do that at least.
Lianne leaned close and whispered to Kai, "At least it isn't Daddy."
Kai shuddered upon hearing that, even though his face didn't show any change of expression.
Lucky indeed.
"And thank you for the ring," Kai said.
