As much as she wanted to open her eyes the banging pain in her head refuses to do so. She could hear the whispers, vehicles, bells and everything was too loud and bright. Smell of freshly baked bread and cheese made her stomach twist from hunger. "Ma'am are you all right? Are you cold?" someone was talking to her. Slowly she open her eyes , head still banging . She was on the side of the road in front of a bakery , which explains the smell. Her stomach gave one more twist and growl from hunger. "Where am I?" she asked now trying to sit up. " You are in Dehradun, this is the main market. Are you from here?" the man in front of her asked. " No" she replied now confused. " No I am not from here, I do not know this place" she said. " Why are you on the road? Are you hurt beta, were you in some accident?" the man asked now concerned. "No, no, I mean I do not know, I can't remember, My head hurt though." she replied pressing her temples. "OK don't worry , first let me help you sit up , I'll bring some water for you " the man said helping her sit and then left . She saw him entering the bakery and the boy inside fold his hand to greet him. "He must know him" she thought. She looked at her leg and realised it was all swollen and bruised. She cursed and gave up on standing. She looked around, it was early in the morning with a very few people on the road and less traffic. She saw a beautiful clock tower in front of her and knew it was 4:30 in the morning. The wind was cold and very swiftly creasing her hair and face. The bakery bell tingled as the man came out of the shop with a water bottle and a brown packet in his hands. He was a tall, fair man in his late forties or may be early fifties. The moustache was giving him a very strict personality but yet he has a very soft, motherly face and soothing voice. "Here drink this and here is something to eat." he said and gave her the packet and the bottle he bought . She drank the water in one go and ate like she hasn't eaten anything in forever. "Can you stand?" asked the man . "My leg, my leg's hurt" she replied with the pudding stuffed in her mouth. "OK let me go fetch someone to help and we will take you inside. It's cold out here." said the man looking at her leg which was bruised. He left for the bakery and she sat there looking at him. He returned with a boy to help her. She immediately recognized him as the same guy who greeted the man earlier. "Hello miss, here let us take you to the bakery , you can rest there while we contact someone from your family. You can rest in one of our sofa , we have recently renovated." he said with a pride smile on his young face. They went inside but in her head she still was thinking about what the boy said, her family, where are they? or who are they?
They entered the shop which was the brightest thing she has seen in her few minutes life today. It has a combination of orange and yellow which somehow she felt kind of painful to her eyes. A very loud song which she later realised was a religious chant on a loop was playing. "Bring her something to eat and some tea. " the man with the moustache ordered the boy who went inside a room, behind the counter at once following the words.
" OK beta , you do not look like you are from here and you definitely do not look homeless to me, so tell me about yourself and your family , they must be really worried about you. Where are you from? Whom should I call? Do you have any number?" asked the man.
"I don't know" she said more to herself then to the man .
"You do not know? Do you live alone, don't you have someone to call? OK let's start with your name, what is your name?" he asked now very concerned.
"I don't know " and then it stuck to her , she don't know she really don't know. She can not remember a thing about herself. It's like her whole life is a blank paper without any memories or facts in it. The more she think the more she realized she do not know who she is , she do not know anything. Her eyes filled with tears. " What is happening? she muttered
The man was looking at her with pitty , too the boy who was looking like he went in shock after listening to her and now can pass out any minute.
"Who are you?" asked the man with a kind, concerned low tone.
"I don't know" she replied.
