Chapter 4 - Oh! My Heart!

The next Saturday, when Joyce was waiting for Lily, she watched the same basketball match again. However, this time when the match finished, a tall figure was running towards her.

His hair was wet due to excessive sweating from the game, but he looked just like a living male model straight from the magazine. The sweat and messy hair only enhanced his already beautifully sculptured face. When he saw her, he smiled and her heart started to accelerate. She stood there, jaw dropping, as in trance. Her mind goes blank. When she think about it later, she realized she might have lost her heart then and there...

"Hi! Are you waiting for Lily?" Jay asked.

"Uh, yes..." finally breaking from her trance and blushed.

"She told me to tell you that she'll be a little late today."

"Oh, she didn't tell me this morning."

"Guess she forgot about it. Do you want to explore my school? it'll be better than sitting here."

"Hmm...."

"Come on, it'll be much better than sitting here alone under the heat. Don't worry, I don't bite."

Upon hearing his words, Joyce suddenly laughed.

Looking at her laughing face, Jayden slowly felt like all his nervousness flew away... He was actually feeling very nervous and his hand were in cold sweat. Luckily he's already wet all over, so it's not that obvious.

Looking at her sweet smiling face, unconsciously Jay smiled too.

Taking her bag, Joyce followed him.

With that ice-breaker sentence, both of them casually chat while Jay showing her his school around and finally bring her to the drama practice room.

When they arrived, a group of students started coming out from the room... Joyce saw Lily and called out to her.

"Hey! how come both of you are here?" lily was half running towards them.

"I showed her around the school just now since you told me earlier that you'll be a little late."

"Oh yes! Sorry Joy, I forgot to tell you this morning.. Did you wait for long?" Lily managed to look apologetic.

"Don't worry. There's nothing a meal won't solve and dissipate my anger to you..." Joy said with mischievous smile.

"Ah, you and your big bottomless tummy... I wonder how you managed to stay so thin when you eat like there's no tomorrow all the time."

Jay was listening and looked at the tiny little girl beside him, thinking Really???

Joy looked at him and laughed, "Don't listen to her! She is just making fun of me!"

"Really Joy? Are you trying to save face now?" Lily taunting her. Looking at Jay, "We can all go out tomorrow and have lunch together and you'll see that I, Lily Chua do not speak ill of others. I only speak the truth."

Jay looked at Joyce, "Are you up to the challenge?"

Looking totally lost and defeated, she sighed, "What can I do? Let's meet tomorrow"

Jumping gleefully Lily told Jay to meet up at the nearest bus-stop and to leave together.

"Ask Sherly to come along. The more, the merrier" Lily told Jay.

So, the three of them left and started walking to each other's home. Each thinking about different thing. To Lily, she finally got to ask Jayden out without being too obvious. To Jayden, he finally gets the chance to be closer to Joyce. As for Joyce, she was thinking about what food to eat and how to finish them without looking like a glutton...

She was smiling by herself with a bittersweet smile when thinking about the past. Taking out a letter, which has lost their frangrance for being kept for too long, she looked at it for a long time. Then she took out again a small but old diary book, and looked at the picture of a beautiful smiling girl.

A drop of silent tear fell out from the corner of her eyes. Then, perhaps as the result of holding her feeling for too long, she silently cried her heart out. Her heart felt so painful as if it was squashed by an invisible hand, the more she cry, the worse her it became and she cried and cried till there was no more tears left.

When she finally calmed down, she looked at the picture again.

I really miss you Lily. There were so much that I wanted to tell you.

Holding on to the small diary book and letter, she fell asleep, exhausted.
