Chapter 1 - Killer Queen

Faster!!!! Come on you piece of junk keep up!!!! Rayla thought furiously the mecha she was using got hit again getting a hole torn into its side. she had been expecting her mech to block but once again she had been too slow. She was thrown back flying into a simulated building she reached for her heavy pistol. Firing to her left three loud shots went off striking a mecha that appeared there disabling its left arm. She had managed to predict where the attack would come from but just as she was about finish her opponent off the link cut off her mech had been destroyed by a rifle round from another opponent.

Rayla punched the screen taking off her safety gear then exiting the pod again she was one of the first pilots to leave. As always she left frustrated with herself, sometimes the world does play cruel jokes on you she thought to herself. She had made it into the piloting school with a scholarship, she had excellent marksmanship skills great reflexes and was thought at one point in time to be one of the best candidates from her small village. Little did she know that every village had someone with the exact same potential and some with even better skills than she did. It had only been one month since she had arrived but even with her extra training everyday, she was lagging behind. In the end it wouldn't have been too bad if she had a friend but most people had just ignored her once they found out that she was only so so in a suit. She exited the simulation machine with a quick jump, she was medium height with short black hair and sapphire blue eyes, which contrasted nicely with her olive skin.

Most of the people that went to the school were already on the fast track to be some of the most powerful people in the empire so they had no time for her. "There she is the killer queen." One of the squad leaders began to laugh, James Ricthor was from one of the most prominent families he was the second cousin to the king or something. As a squad leader he was overseeing the his squads progress. "How many is that now thirty or forty mecha that you have totaled." He laughed. Killer Queen ugh she hated that nickname, she had gotten it after she had "accidentally" crashed her mech in one of her first simulations against one of the instructors. She had managed in one impressive move that is what instructor said to not only impale her mech with her one of the spears he had been carrying slicing into the core of her and blowing both of their mechs into nothing. It was a great example of a kamikaze being one of only three people to beat an instructor in the first three months of flying a mecha. Although the other people that had done it in a duel. Ever since that day her nickname had become a joke because she had managed to beat a instructor.

She just ignored him people like him, were a dime a dozen here with great skills as soon as they got here. They had been practicing on a mecha since they were born. He was probably one of the best pilots here, and not just that he had multiple private teachers that help him improve everyday. She went to grab some food and look over her footage of her previous fight. The month end reviews were coming and everyone would be assigned to their first squad.

Rayla being one of the first people to return to Everest command waited for the rest of her class to arrive one by one. "Attention!!" One of the instructors yelled then, Commander Grif looked at each of them. Grif was a burly man with greasy hair who had not exercised very well in a long time. He was one of the political pencil pushers the Kingdom had dropped off here to give assignments out. "Alright each one of you will be given an assignment of duty take them seriously. A failure in these assignments means automatic expulsion from the academy. Thirty percent of the people given their first assignments don't make it back so if you don't make it back it won't matter. After completing the assignment you will be given a private teacher for a week to improve upon you skills. Dismissed!!!" Grif was in and out in less than minute then the instructors gave out the assignments.

Peters a tall man with pitch black hair and white skin handed her and assignment, so she was in his unit. Peters did not look too pleased. She opened the folder to look over her assignment.

Astrolith region 2

Village: Constance

Squad leader: Peters Dell (Crusher)

Squad members: Fin Burrows assigned suit type 1 CF, Katie Green assigned suit type 3 CF, Rayla Scott assigned suit type 2.

She left the room the went to her room to pack up her things she was actually looking forward to this assignment. She was going home she would be going back to her village she could see her family. After she packed everything up headed for The Garage. This was the area were the mobile suits were kept, Astrolith had three main types of mass produced mobile suits.

Type 1. Scout- Speed type with recon capabilities

Type 2 Gunner- Slow type heavy weapons

Type 3 Fighter- all around type with interchangeable weapons

Rayla had done well when she had gotten a chance to use the gunner mecha she had survived the longest with it and not only that she had managed to actually beat at least 2 other enemies when she used it. She had only limited training with it though because she had to put in equal amounts of time to all three so she could get used to different mechs. Her instructor had told her she wouldn't always be able to use her best one sometimes you got stuck with one your weren't particularly good with and you had to make the best of the situation. The CF on her other squad members mechs meant they were custom fitted, in other words they were from their own families. She had heard of both her squad mates and they both blew her out of the water with their skills. She jumped into the back of a truck, both of her squad members were there and they did not look happy to see her, this was going to be a long ride.
