Chapter 24 - Determination

"Lieutenant Wernst, Lieutenant Wernst!"

It was quiet, but when he heard that the battlefield was still very noisy, General Garwitz was in an anxious fit and hurriedly called out to the radio.

But there is no reply at all.

"Reporting General, the Bavarian 16th Infantry Regiment Camp Battalion Commander Major Denison has arrived."

General Garvitz did not reply, and his full attention is still on the radio: "Major, do you recognize Wernst Gustav?"

"Yes, general, he is the third company commander."

"Where is this man now?"

"Unfortunately, general. We don't know." Although he didn't know why the general would ask about a little Lieutenant, Major Denison replied truthfully: "When the retreat was received, Lieutenant Wernst did not retreat in time, and he was overwhelmed by our artillery, I think the Lieutenant may have been killed."

General Garvitz looked serious: "Do you have an African worker in the third?"

"Yes, yes. I heard Sergeant Hall say that they captured an African worker while attacking the G position."

General Garvitz is now completely relieved, and Lieutenant Wernst Gustav is indeed continuing to fight on the front line.

"General, general!"

The voice of Alex came from the other side of the phone, and the attention of everyone in the staff was drawn.

"General, are you still there?"

"I have been waiting for you, Lieutenant Wernst."

"General, the battle is over. We have captured the enemy's military camp. We killed a total of one hundred and eighty-seven British soldiers, with no casualties. We have no casualties!"

The sound is clearly emitted from the radio.

There was an unstoppable exclamation in the staff, and even the calm-like General Garvitz, almost dropped the receiver in his hand:

"Can you say that again?"

"We killed one hundred and eighty-seven British, and the Soberk Prince Camp has been defeated!"

There is an exclamation again heard in the staff, which is simply unbelievable. Two people killed an entire enemy battalion? Also, annihilated one hundred and eighty-seven British soldiers?

Miracle.....no, this is a work only God can do!

General Garvitz's voice was a little trembling: " Lieutenant Wernst, can you be sure?"

"Yes, I am sure sir! I guarantee it by the honor of the soldiers!"

"Long live Germany!" Suddenly, someone called out loudly.

"Long Live Germany!!"

All the people shouted out loud and vented their emotions.

This is Lieutenant Wernst Gustav, this is the pride of Germany!

Long live, Germany!

"Have you heard the cheers, Lieutenant Wernst?." General Garvitz controlled his excitement: "You will receive the highest honor, and the miracle you created will remain in the history of Germany forever, Mr. Miracle!"

Mr. Miracle, from now on, Lieutenant Wernst Gustav has another nickname!

But now the Mr.miracle ... Alex Dickintton will not care what nickname he has. He cares more about how he leaves here: "General, I have taken the position, I am going to retreat in the direction of Biash…"

General Garvitz was silent. He called Colonel Rolle: "Colonel, you speak to the Lieutenant."

Colonel Rolle took the call and calmed down his emotions: "Lieutenant, I am Colonel Rolle, the Chief of Staff, I express my deepest admiration for your bravery, but you can't retreat in the direction of Biash."

"Why is that sir?"

"According to our reconnaissance plane, a lot of enemies have reinforced the direction of Ashe…"

The radio was silent…

Alex put down the walkie-talkie and sat down on a mound silently.

He does not blame Asuka.

Asuka is just a computer. Although she has certain wisdom, all the judgments she makes are made based on information and logic. The situation on the battlefield is changing rapidly. It is not as if a computer can handle it.

Perhaps there is a mistake in the information. Perhaps because the person who does not belong to this time and space has disrupted the normal historical track, and there are a large number of enemies in Biash, well who knows?

"Beansprout." Alex glanced at the Halal behind him and smiled bitterly: "The original retreat route was blocked, and I am afraid we can't get out."

"Oh, I know Lieutenant." Halal Farmer doesn't seem to care at all: "There are so many people we killed here, and we are enough, Lieutenant, just let me see what weapons are available."

Looking at his back, Alex smiled. This man is silent, but on the battlefield, he is a trustworthy person.

He took the walkie-talkie a bit and started a conversation with Asuka: "Asuka, the evacuation route Ash is blocked, is there any alternative route available."

"Wait a minute, I'll observe the situation… 'Operator', a piece of bad news, you are surrounded by enemies everywhere. The Germans have already withdrawn from the main battlefield, and there are still a few days away from the counterattack. You have no possibility of breaking through. Unless the Gargantua Military Base attacks, but that will cause terrible disaster in time and space…"

"No need." Alex smiled faintly: "Asuka if I die, would you miss me?"

"Yes." Asuka's answer was very unexpected for Alex: "Because if you die, I can't go back."

"You're really heartless." Alex actually said the word "heartless" to a computer.

Asuka is silent: "Operator, if you can't come back, I will start the self-destruction program, so that all the secrets here will be drowned in time and space. But I hope that you can come back, and I have a feeling, even though I can't explain…"

Does Asuka have feelings? Alex was stunned: "Is that loneliness?"

"Loneliness?" It is clear that Asuka is temporarily unable to understand the two words.

"Can you take me back to the base?"

"No, my surroundings are sprawled with enemies. Once the base is forcibly opened, the possibility of exposure is too great."

"I won't let you be alone!" Alex doesn't know why, but he suddenly cheered up: "We will go home together!"

"Lieutenant, Lieutenant." The walkie-talkie came from the call of Colonel Rolle.

Alex took the walkie-talkie: "Colonel Rolle, please tell me what kind of enemy is in front of me."

"Lieutenant, if the enemy did not change, then it is the 19th Infantry of the British Welsh." Colonel Rolle replied, and suddenly felt something: "Lieutenant, what do you want to do?"

"Colonel, please tell the general, since we can't retreat, then I will take my companion and charge!"

The staff department was caught in dead silence. Only the sound of Wernst Gustav sounded:

"General, Colonel, I don't know when our next contact will be, I don't know if I can find a British radio and reconnect with you. But I have made a decision, my companion and I will launch an offensive against the British 19th Infantry Regiment. For the honor of the soldiers, everything is for Germany!"
