"I just want you to help her become less shy."
"That's just stupid, the request itself is just vague. And not only is it vague, but assigning me to be that girl's talking partner is not something you should do if you want her to become less shy."
"Maybe, but I'm sure that if someone as bold as you talked to her she will gain some confidence"
I sigh.
"Or crumble trying"
"I'm sure you won't let that happen."
This request feels too vague and annoying. There's also another thing that bothers me about this request.
"And what exactly do you gain by helping her out?"
"What if I told you I am a kind woman who likes to help people out?"
I sigh.
"...If you say so, what exactly do you deem 'less shy' to be exact?"
"Mhhhhh, I think that enough to at least look people in the eye when she speaks.."
"...Let me think."
This request seems more trouble than it's worth. There are too many unknowns with this like why would she ask me of all people or what are her actual intentions behind doing all of this. However... in the long run, she may turn to be a helpful source of information...Ugh, what to do...
"...Alright, I accept. However, your request is to get her to become less shy, don't hold it against me if she doesn't progress, your request is idiotic to being with so don't expect much out of me.."
"That's alright with me. Do we have ourselves a deal then?"
"Sure."
I still don't know what her real objective may be or what she stands to gain from this. I better keep close attention to what this person says and does.
Though I don't know where does she get the confidence that I will do it after she tells me. Does she have some sort of insurance?... Stop overthinking this!
"Alright then, here's a little story for you."
...Oh yeah, I forgot I came here because I was slightly curious about the specifics of Magic Soldier and human relationships. I guess now I have to sit through whatever it is that she'll tell me.
"Have you heard the name Rosalinda Eos."
"'The First' if I am not mistaken."
"Correct, then now that I've established that let me refresh this for you. You may know this already but a child between a magic soldier and a human is born either normal or with extremely low magical capacity. The first case of this was Rosalinda Eos' daughter, Aisha Eos."
Aisha Eos... isn't that the girl that fought that armament teacher. Isn't she supposed to be number one in terms of ranking?
"Hold up, that doesn't make sense, isn't Aisha the strongest girl in our grade? Aren't you contradicting what you just said?"
"Yes and no, as you may know already amount of magic power doesnt exactly dictate power."
"Yes, however, there's only so much you can do if your capacity is way below average. There's also the fact that this was supposedly found out 12 years ago, isn't she 14 or 15."
"That is indeed true, it was first found 12 years ago, and that's due to another child from a weaker magical soldier being born. As you know, Rosalinda is regarded as the strongest magical soldier. The reason why her Aisha had any magic at all was that she's just that strong. Her magic capacity is huge and the amount of elements she commands doesn't lag behind what you're capable of. Therefore, Aisha had a greater chance to inherit at least one element."
"Is Aisha the only child that was able to retain her magic"
"Yes, she's Rosalinda's only daughter anyways."
"...I see, wait, how did Rosalinda have a child? Wouldn't she be about 50 years old by then?"
"Didn't you know, magic soldiers are suspected to have greater life spans than a regular human. This itself is not confirmed since there isn't a single magic soldier over 100. However, the first generation is in their 50s and 60s and they still look around 20 something years old and maintain the same functions thereof. It may be either that they suddenly change when they are closer to a hundred or that their lifespans are that long."
I see if their lifespans are long while maintaining an appearance as if they are in their 20s it will be the same for me. So the first generations still look like they are in their twenties then?... So it's hard to discern the age of a magic soldier.
I'm kind of wondering what exactly did the government do then. There were no magic contracts in her time. And there was no way to restrain the most powerful magic soldier back then. So if she had one child, I'm sure she could've had more children if she wanted yet she didn't. There was probably an intervention somewhere along the lines.
I remember reading a book once about this Rosalinda Eos. Apparently, she had a good amount of exploits as she acquired more power. However, she's currently missing and no one knows where she is.
"...What happened to the first after that then?"
"Are you trying to sneak in more questions? That isn't part of our deal."
"I guess not, I can kind of figure what happened though."
"Really, what are your thoughts then?"
I look at her trying to see if her facial expressions crumble even the slightest.
"Well, it is said that Rosalinda is missing according to books. However, I have a different proposition now. What if instead of 'missing,' she left."
"...And why do you think that is?"
Bingo, she tried to keep a poker face but she twitched a little and had a long pause before her answer. So then, the strongest magic soldier left huh. I'm not entirely sure, but there's probably a good connection between this man who's last name is Eos and Rosalinda leaving.
"No reason, it's about time I leave, don't you think?" I say as I stand up
"...Try not to stick your nose too much in dangerous things." She gets up and starts walking with me
"Is that a warning," I say as I press the button.
"Depends on what you may consider one. Now, it's your turn to keep your end of our little deal."
"Yeah, yeah."
The only thing I can come up with is that her husband was killed in some way, shape or form. However, even if that's the case, why would she leave? She's the strongest magic soldier. She could've just carried out her revenge on the right after he was killed.
What would leaving do and how would it solve anything? No need to pry any deeper into this, it's not like I'll be dealing with any of it anyways.
