Jace could see that the information he had just told Brae was upsetting her.
He'd just gotten her back and already she was miserable.
"I'll be with you throughout the whole event", he promised.
He needed to lighten the atmosphere and relax his expression so she wouldn't be scared.
Brae was on the verge of tears. Her nose was scrunched up and her mouth tugged downward, the only thing missing was tears and he knew they weren't far behind.
He was disappointed because that meant he had to take a step back because if she pulled back from him now, everything would be ruined.
He knew he had to make things better quick.
"Ok we don't have to go", Jace tried to keep the frustration from his voice.
Brae abruptly looked up. He stared back.
"I said we don't have to go", he said on a sigh.
"Are you serious?", she was hesitant to believe him, he knew.
Jace was so tired. He did everything for her and all he ever got was complaints.
But he will do this if it means she stays with him comfortably. He could risk everything but not Brae.
She was his future.
Sure, she didn't want to actually be here. But it's better this way. This time around he would be more patient with her. She should be thanking him for even granting her that.
"Yes, we don't have to go. But you're eventually going to have to meet them and when you do, I expect perfect behaviour, ok?"
Brae thought it over.
He was waiting for her answer and the silence was starting to get awkward and tense.
She hated the idea of meeting his pretentious, rude, and ignorant friends but she would yield for now.
Maybe she could think of another excuse the next time as well.
So with a heavy chest she nodded.
Jace was satisfied and took his phone out of his pocket under the table.
He needed to cancel the event, well his secretary had to cancel the event.
